Any Mountain Bikers on Here?

Nice lineup!! How are you liking the fat bike?

Thanks. I never thought I'd own a fatbike but winters are long here. It's not really much fun in the snow but great to keep the legs spinning. Transitioning from winter to spring I had a chance to ride it in some dirt before the trails were ready for trail bikes. It was actually very fun. Tons of grip and rolls over everything.

Trails are open here now since the rains kept them closed.

Trails around here are open all the time rain, snow or shine. We get so much rain here that the trails change a lot from month to month year to year. We can ride and the trails can be pure mud. Come back next week and all tracks that were left are gone, washed away or filled up with dirt and silt. We do gravel or rock the perpetually wet areas or the dangerous areas though.
It's funny, in the summer we have to take trimmers with blade attachments and trim the brush and briars back or else the trail would grow over and dissappear, even though it gets hiked and biked daily. I have to mow the yard twice a week from spring til fall.

Around here in NJ, the mtb purists lose their minds when people go out in muddy conditions at anytime......especially the flatter, lower lying mtb parks. The rain here isn't as prevalent so when they ride in mud, it leaves bad ruts that don't go anywhere for quite a while unless someone tends to them. Then people widen the trails when they ride around the rutty conditions.

Most of the places closer to the NJ shore, however, drain much better due to the higher concentration of sand in the dirt and hillier terrain so the conditions aren't nearly as bad.

Not here. We maintain the local trails and most of the riders pitch in. We rode 10 miles the other evening after we had some 30 mph winds. I automatically packed a folding saw and it took us over two hours for the ride because we had to move limbs and dead trees out of the way. Only had to use the saw a few times which was a pleasant surprise. When the trees come out down here I'll take a few pics. All our trails are in the deep woods.

Love all the builder/maintainer posts...

Our area is a no-go for wet conditions too. When a person spends most of their spring and fall and some of their winter and summer time off building trails it hurts to see somebody who either ignorantly or selfishly destroy so much work riding muddy-soft trails (bike or horse). It's also gratifying how many riders, hikers, runners and horse people show up for build days and how much work we can all do.

Building a brand new section of trail...one of the more recent work days spent with some really great people...

We have great people around here who do trail maintenance as well.....usually regulars who live close by enough to ride almost daily......and have very effective tools like this.....

Never Coming Back NCB Multi Mcleod trail tool | Never Coming Back

Some places need it more regularly than others.....

I can't say enough about our local trail stewards and what DORBA does to maintain our trails here in the DFW area. Riding road to get some saddle time isn't as fun. Back home in Seattle the trails were open, ruts weren't an issue just slippery roots

Another real killer around some areas is when you get dirt motorcycles going through these places (among mtb'ers, hikers, and even simple dog walkers) and even a little of that does tons of damage......and they don't generally give a damn.

Ooh, that needs a serious big unlike button! Was surprised how bad the damage from motorbikes had gotten on the upper section of Monarch Crest. So glad we don't have that issue here in the county, at least, not yet!

Off topic, anyone have a line on a great deal for a gently used +2014 Santa Cruz Heckler medium size?

Need pics of the Moots. Love those bikes.

Is that a german short hair in your profile pic?

Single speed. Balls of love/hate. One of the best bike's I've ever had.

Thanks, nice bike. No, that was my lab she has since passed away. Just don't want to change the pic. I do own a GSP now though.

Sorry to hear about the Lab! And happy about the GSP. We have a 12yr old GSP on this side. Such great dogs.

New Toy Day

Finally got my long awaited Santa Cruz in today and got out for a ride!

I am just getting into it. I live near the US White Water Center. There are tongs of free trails to run. I'll got on a sunny day after work. I am not in the best shape (right now) so if the hill is too steep, I'll pull to the side and walk up it and let the pros speed by me

There is no shame in pushing.

My wife and I rode Lake Norman today, just up the road!

No shame in walking. The WWC is no joke!
