Focus Black Forest 2.0 29er

A little heavier than some of the other bikes I considered in my price range (picked this up as a leftover for a deep discount), but has better components and the bike makes quick work of the root-filled, rocky, rutted trails I ride on.

2016 Kona Precept 130. had my garage broken into and some jabroni stole my Tanuki Delux, so this will do for now.

Replaced my '13 Evo with the '19 Comp Carbon. Looked at the Expert but decided their hubs weren't the best and I'd be better of building up the Comp model. Already got a GX cassette, Aggressor/DHF 2.5" and carbon wheels on the way! Running it in the Low setting. Loving it so far.

Update: Got my carbon wheels and tires put on a month ago. Loving it so far! Still not tired of that color shift. Also took the old bike out just b/c, N+1.

Sheesh, my stock DB Line is not worth posting pictures of compared to some of these bikes :lol:

I started riding again this summer for the first time in decades! Had a blast this summer and hoping to carry it in to some snow riding... we'll see how that goes haha!

I've been mountain biking for over 30 years fairly consistently. I've done trail maintenance, design, and building for around 20 of those years. Since having a kid, my time is pretty limited, but I still get out when I can.
Current bikes are:
2015 Trek Fuel EX9 w/ RE:activ valving on the rear FOX suspension, 27.5" wheels and 11 speed XO1 drivetrain.
2013 Salsa El Mariachi SS 29'r burnt orange/gold, 32x20 gears

I'd list all the bikes I've had if I could remember them all. My first mtn bike was a Team Murray CrMo framed bike that was actually a decent bike for the time. That particular model was well known enough that it actually ended up in the MOMBAT (mountain bike museum in Statesboro, NC).

Big fan of Trek, Santa Cruz, and Rocky Mtn.

I see the KCMO location tag. I've ridden out at Landahl Park and Smithville lake. Coming from east TN, I wasn't sure how much of a challenge riding in the KC area would be. Landahl was cool, no real challenge for me, but then I hit Smithville....I don't know if it was just a bad day for me or if the trails were challenging me, but I endo'd twice at Smithville in one day.

I hear Swope park is pretty good too. You have some nice trails in Kansas City from what I've seen so far! In a few year I'm planning to ride the Katy from St Louis to Clinton and hit up the trail systems that are nearby the Katy along the way.

Thanks for the info! I just moved here a couple months ago so maybe get to check it out a few years in the future when I get free time! Came from the SoCal area where I had trails everywhere I looked so weird not having tons of trails at my disposal.

2008 Novara System 2.0. Basically pieced together by REI. Decent components but very heavy. Gets the job done. Only $950 when I bought it. Yea, one day I'll probably upgrade to a Giant with 27.5 " wheels, but like others spending too much on the 4Runner.

Believe it or not, a lot of good trails in the Dallas area. Grapevine Northshore trail is about 22 miles long and has something for just about everyone. I wouldn't say the hardest part is expert, but maybe advanced. Too old to do anything too hard.

One day I want to do the Womble trail in Arkansas. Lake Leatherwood has some good trails near Eureka Springs, AR.

Agreed, DORBA does a great job of maintaining the trails in the DFW area.
Went to Austin this past weekend and hit Cameron park Friday and Spider Mt. Saturday.

I hated my bike rack setup on my 4Runner. I had the OEM crossbars (came with the truck) but no trays that fit them between a 1up tray, Rockymount, and Thule bigmouth that were carryover from old vehicles. In order to carry more than my hitch mount would handle, I had to install these 72” wide crossbars to get any bikes on the roof... time consuming, looked ridiculous, noisy square bars. Also, the hitch stuck way out the back and couldn’t clear the tailgate when in the stowed position.

Looked like this.

My wife’s MINI has t slot bars, so the Rockymount and 1up worked fine for it but mismatched trays annoyed me.

So, I made changes.

Enter the 1up tray to hitch adapter. Clears the tailgate in the stowed position! Build quality is great and I don’t mind leaving it installed all the time versus the Thule that was showing wear even though it was in the garage almost any time I wasn’t riding because of the length and annoying double motion required to enter the cargo area.

So, what to do when I have the wife and kid along? 2 Yakima Highroad trays. They are aero bar and T slot compatible so they work on both cars and install in minutes.

They even come in the right colors. Plus, since I now have 4 bikes with Lefty forks, I don’t have to use the adapters to roof mount them.

Bonus, I kept my old Rockymount tray so I can go 3 up on the MINI or put it inside the 4Runner for more security without having to put all the rear seats down.

For what I sold all of my old stuff, it was $100 or so out of pocket. More garage space, less clutter, more zen Quen-tin. Pretty happy with this setup for my family of 3 (and 10 bikes [emoji23] )

Latest pickup: minty fresh 2001 Cannondale F700

Looks like it was never ridden. $200 on Facebook. I put another $400 into it with grips, brakes, shorter stem, wider bars, and pedals as my neighborhood whip.

My mountain bike that gets the most love these days is my Bad Habit. I have 29er and 27.5+ wheelsets for it. Weighs a ton more than my XC race bike but so much more fun. I guess I’m hitting that age where having fun matters more than Strava segments.
