Personally I wouldn't post your work (job/unit/city/department) on this website. Yes we can see what LEO department you work at from the picture. What goes up here is public and stays forever. You make a comment in 5 years that offends some delicate flower and suddenly they are looking at your posts and complaining to the city.

One thing you can definitely be sure of .. there are a lot of babies out there. Have you noticed politics is banned completely? Do you know about the folks in the past who've been dox'd and had death threats over some T4R comments & disagreements? These things happened here and not that long ago.

As always ... thank you for keeping us safe! LEO, Firefighters, Military, those who put their life on the line for the public are a nobel bunch.

I haven't spent a lot of time here, lately, but did notice that now that you mention it. What gives?

Apparently no ban on firearm-related threads, though, or the politically-oriented comments that almost always come with them. But because everyone posting in those threads is arguably on the same political 'side,' that's not a problem?

Ahhhh... yes... the medics are the red-headed step children of the public safety trio. Always left out from any mentioning(or anything else for that matter).... Just kidding, I know in a lot of towns they fall under the fire dept so "firefighters" becomes a blanket term. However not all of us are. But seriously.... we always seem to be forgotten. :shrug:

My bad, rough day at work. However, I think your view may be a little off. Most dont realize that we work right alongside the PD and FD everyday, on almost ever single call. We go out there and put ourselves in potentially dangerous situations everyday. While maybe we aren't going into a house thats on fire or chasing bad guys, we do have dangers of our own. You try taking care of someone strung out on drugs in the back of a truck (who doesnt want to be there in the first place) thats smaller than some peoples closets while dodging traffic that doesnt under stand the meaning of pull to the right. Or have a man with an altered mental status answer his door with his 12ga pointing in your face because he doesnt know why there are flashing light outside and someone knocking on his door.

While I (and many other LEO's) understand your logic, there are more things to worry about than a pic of my squad and someone supposedly figuring out where I work from this post after getting "offended" and making a complaint.

When my body cam finally arrives, I will be on four (4) cameras while working... body cam and 3 cams in my squad, all sync'ed together in high definition. That doesn't count the number of people who audio/video record me while I'm on-duty. I gave up worrying about this a long time ago when I realized that I need to do my job as a professional and not a paranoid professional. We (law enforcement) are already under policies that govern us while off-duty, and I make it a point to not make comments that are blatantly stupid or ridiculous -- and being careful when I make jokes with others. Just because someone doesn't "like" something I say/post, or becomes "offended" at it, or disagrees with what I say/post, doesn't mean I violated any policy. I am fortunate to have a boss who fully embraces and understands that position. I will say, for the rookies, they need to be more careful for a longer period of time; at least until they have the courtroom experience to understand what legal traps could await them if they are not careful and professional. Lawyers are already using subpoenas to access LEOs personal cell phone info to try to attack us during trial. I can't control everything that is sent to me, but I can control what I say/send in return.

Dox-ing can be an issue, but then again I am a government employee and anyone can make an open records request for my information (has already happened with Montana POST by a news organization -- they requested a list of every active LEO in the state, the LEO's agency, and the LEO's POST status, among other things).

And from a practical standpoint, there's probably more to worry about if you post your registration plate than there is for me by posting a pic of my squad, and I can say there's not a heck of a lot to worry about posting your registration plate.

Relaxed, but alert at all times.

I've heard rumors of reliability issues with the Chargers, but in my personal experience I haven't seen those problems on any noticeable scale. My department has been running Chargers for about 7-8 years now, and we haven't experienced any pattern of problems with them. Of course there are occasional issues, but that's true of any vehicle that takes the kind of abuse a police unit takes. My previous Charger went about 80k with little more than oil changes, brakes, and tires. It's still running strong for the rookie that has it now. The new one only has a whopping 6,000 miles on it now, so I hope it holds up as well!

Actually, here's an interesting anecdote regarding that. Some years back, I made a comment in a thread about false rape claims on Coptalk / Glocktalk. This was in a thread about the staggering number of false rape claims. My comment was essentially that of the numerous claims of "rape" I've investigated, only a small number, maybe like 5%, were actually "rapes". The others were determined through investigation to be false reports; either outright lies, or a gross stretching of the truth - like the "victim" had ****ed another dude and then thought better of it the next day when her boyfriend / husband found out, so "he raped me".

This ****ing ******* who read that thread, and read my post, apparently flipped his shit because - well, I don't know why. He didn't have a handle on reality, I guess, since any cop will tell you that more reports of sex offenses are false than real. Anyway, he pulls my email address from post history, finds out who I am from the email, figures out what department I worked for based on my name, and files a complaint with the department alleging that I am derelict in my duties investigating sex offenses. I got ****ing IA'd because some dickweed 2000 miles away was offended by the truth. ****ing amazing.

Some years later, when this "Occupy" movement was in full swing, someone on a motorcycle forum posted a picture they had taken from a high rise hotel overlooking Pittsburgh, and there was a huge crowd of "Occupy" protesters in the square below the hotel, basically stinking up the place with their arrogance. In response to this image, posted by a friend who I have spent a lot of time with, I replied: "Sniper nest?". Again, some gutless shit-turd who didn't identify themselves pulled the screenshot, located me through email, ID'd me, ID'd department, and filed a complaint alleging that I was advocating murder of citizens engaged in a lawful protest.

Bottom line, there's a lot of little *****es in this world, and not a one of them has any balls. But even without testicles, they will still try to **** you.

Reading your post makes me ticked that there are people like this with nothing better to do than s**t all over your first amendment rights but unfortunately that's the world we live in. This site is basically the only social media I participate in bc of all the data gathering that is possible nowadays. I will say something that happened not too long ago. I was eating breakfast at a diner and there was a police officer at the end of the counter waiting for his food to go. I walked up to him, thanked him for his service, adding that as a minority I respect what he does and that I understand his job is not always easy. I offered to cover his bill, he thanked me, shook my hand and went on his way. What got me was as soon as he left, a young lady who saw what I did asked me why on earth would I buy a cop his breakfast. She was offended at the mere thought. I turned to her and with a straight face I said that as a young Hispanic male, I do not fear the police, rather I respect them and the work they do. Her mouth dropped to the ground as if this is so outrageous to think that anybody could really feel that way. I continued eating, payed for both meals and left.
Sorry to hear you got investigated for such BS I hope they determined you did nothing wrong.

That's the tricky thing about First Amendment rights and cops: you really don't have any....according to your employer. I'm not talking about simply discussing what you do and saying something that gets someone else in a tizzy: I think you're good to go in that respect, especially if they have to go out of their way to find out who you are. As in...what you posted really can't be said to be 'publicly available' if a person had to go to such great lengths to discover your identity.

I'm talking about guys (and gals" who post photos of themselves in uniform, have some kind of agency-related avatar, or otherwise openly state "I work for the XXXXX Police Department/Highway Patrol," THEN decide to speak their mind. The outcome is almost never good.
