Any Plumbers on the forum?

So I have a toilet that is backed up and the plunger did not work and now water is leaking in my garage. The toilet is on the base level right next to the garage. No leaking on the inside but I think its coming from a pipe. I have called a plumber but the suspense/fear is driving me mad. :yuck: Can anyone give me some ideas on what will need to be done, I know its just speculation but hoping someone has experience to draw from.

UPDATE: over the past hour the toilet emptied through the pipe thankfully as the water has not increased in the garage. Any other insights?

well firstly turn the valve off that supplies that toilet with water.


is it leaking from the base of the toilet at all? where is the water coming from exactly?

If it is leaking in the pressure pipe feeding the toilet your house should have a main on/off valve for water located inside the house in a closet or near your water heater. You can turn that off to stop the leak as well.

If the plunger doesnt work then you can try to run a drain snake through it like ndcent suggested

I suspect your issue is still there. Gravity helped the pipe/toilet to drain over time. I wouldn't use that toilet or wash clothes or dishes until the plumber arrives.

Did you take a monster dump? :toilet:

If the plunger is not clearing it, don't go crazy with it, you might bust a seal since the toilet is usually only sealed with a compression fit wax ring.

The fact that it empties out slowly is a good sign, I probably wouldn't bother calling a plumber he's probably just going to do the same thing

EDIT: Make sure to get that particular type of snake, or else you're going to scratch the crap out of the porcelain...this special snake has a bent guide that helps you maneuver around the hump w/o damaging the porcelain. If you did not continue to flush thus overflowing the toilet I'm going to speculate that vigorous plunging killed the wax ring. It's probably leaking between the flange and the toilet and caulk is keeping it from leaking out the front. A new wax ring is really cheap but get an extra thick one if you have tile floors.

When we get a clogged toilet I turn off the water to the toilet (kids) and put about a half cup of Dawn dish soap (degreaser)in the toilet. Let it molder over night and pour about a quart of boiling water straight down on the trap in the morning.

The snake above does work well. It's the cleaning of the snake after use that I really hate!
