Any recommendations for an OBDII code reader for my 2003?

I'm starting to tinker and catch up on the maintenance for my 2003 4Runner Limited V8.

I'll be getting a set of FSMs soon. I know they're available online but I'd rather have them in print and not hassle with printing and binding.

My previous Toyotas were pre-OBDII so I just pulled the codes by watching the engine light blink : So now it seems like I should get a code reader, or perhaps an interface for a laptop?

My Scangauge reads codes and gives other info too.

I bought the cheapest one from like autozone it was like 40 bucks i think. It reads them...then i have to google them to see what they mean. But I can clear them too. Well worth it. I've heard people have good luck with the laptop cables that are much cheaper...

I have a hand held reader and one that plugs into a laptop.

I bought the one for the laptop because I wanted to write my own interface to the OBD-II on the car. I got most of the software finished, but never had time to finish it. That was 2 years ago. The software that came with the system is OK. Slightly better then the hand held. But it could be vastly improved on.

They make apps for iPhone/Android that do some pretty cool real time readouts.

Palmer Performance makes stuff for iPhones/Androids (wired, wireless etc.)

There's an App for android called Torque, but I've never used it.

Some people just get a ScanGaugeII.

I use Torque on my Razr and the adapter from Amazon. Stays connected, pulls codes, and streams live data. Best $40 I spent on my phone so far. People come to work with check engine lights and I pull out my adapter and scan it for them.
