Any recommendations on a good/inexpensive OBD II tool.

I'd suggest an UltraGauge -- for under 70 bucks you get a sweet user configurable gauge that also has all the functionality of an OBD2 tool (reads and clears codes).

If you have a smart phone you can use something like this...
LYL® Elm327 WIFI Wirless OBD2 Car Diagnostic Reader Scanner Scan Tool for Iphone iPad iOS PC : Amazon.com : Automotive
That one is for the IPhone. It uses WiFi to connect to the IPhone. If you have a Droid or Microsoft phone...there's a Blue Tooth version. The only good Blue Tooth version for the IPhone is about $100.
Once you get the device then you get a free phone app. Then you just sync the phone up to the device. Much better software then the handheld scanners. And it's upgradable.

it is pretty cool though since you can not only find out what that check engine light trying to tell you, but there is also alot of statistical stuff that's viewable with dozens, if not over a hundred options
my friend mounted an Ipad into his truck, turns on this app and it looks like something straight out of fast & furious! :lookout:

If you have an android, this is the better option and is way smaller and cheaper:

If you go with this option you can use 2 apps
Torque: has lots of options
Dash: nice UI
Both free on the playstore (torque has a pro version but you have to pay)
I can second this opinion. I've been using Torque Pro for a few years now with my $20 OBD2 bluetooth reader from amazon. Less than $25 spent overall and can be used on any OBD2 car.

I third that. I got the BAFX one on Amazon for 20 bucks, another 5 bucks for torque pro. couldnt be happier with the purchase!

I used this bluetooth adapter and an app called Torque on my Android phone with my Mazda car. Buying the adapter for my 4runner soon. Does everything a scan tool does, is wireless, and no need to have another tool in your truck. Just pop it right up on your phone.
EDIT: Seen you are using Torque already!

sorry, I've never explored if reading abs codes is possible with Torque Pro...
there is a whole forum dedicated to the Torque app though and you may be able to find your answer over there if no one here knows.

We are a mac household. Doesn't that software only run on old windows Xp?
They say...
the old remove battery cable to clear WONT get you past SMOG... except that it DID 4 me... that said i found the cheapest ebay, yet highly rated amazon one i could find, they looked exactly the same, haven't needed it but just in case...
My error code was for gas cap gasket, which i replaced later, also i didn't pull the battery cable the day before, maybe 3-4 weeks prior to smog, i also don't drive my 4runner everyday too. just fyi
