Fuji Cross Comp... it's a cross bike with road tires. Have had this bike for 7 years and it's been bullet proof..a bit on the heavy side but don't have a ton of extra cash for a super light bike. Especially with all the moding :cry2:
On that note. What's everyone's recommendation for a bike that's a hybrid of race (low ergonomics) and long distance ( more on the comfortable side) ?

I started on a giant defy. Good balance between the two. I now have a giant tcr but it's less comfortable but lighter and faster.
Just Google "endurance" or "gravel" bike. There are numerous options in that category now which include disc brakes and frames designed to handle tire sizes in the 40c-50c range which will add to the cush factor over high miles. That said, around mile 80 of a 100 mile ride, I'm not sure if any cush factor has any relevance.

If you're looking for comfort, maybe search/read about full suspension xc bikes. I've seen a few articles that suggest these may be the hot item in the next year or two. Also seeing some suspension improvements in the road scene too (not as many as with xc). I think Trek is touting some form of full suspension with the Domane, although it is not suspension as you envision from mtn/xc bikes.
I have a 2013 Masi Premiare 3. Hadn't planned on buying carbon for my first road bike, but it was a new leftover at over half off, putting it into entry level cost territory, so I bit. Glad I did, I've been pleased with it.
Still... my last event ride that was almost entirely on coarse chip seal and pothole filled roads had me thinking about putting drop bars and Thick Slicks on my full sus 29er mtn bike.

While mountain biking is my first love, I used to be a pretty avid road rider and occasional scrappy Cat 5 racer when I lived in San Diego. But the days of riding 3x a week and duking it out with the locals at the weekly Fiesta Island World Championships are long gone. These days, a 2 hour weekend jaunt is a luxury.
Road: Giant TCR Advanced SL -- Flouro orange and grey. Preposterously light. I absolutely do not deserve this bike.
Mountain: Santa Cruz 5010 -- Kind of like a Dodge Viper. Super fast but more than happy to let you go ahead and destroy yourself. Looks great on the back of a 4Runner.
Road: Giant TCR Advanced SL -- Flouro orange and grey. Preposterously light. I absolutely do not deserve this bike.

Thanks, not looking for a "cush" ride necessarily..
Looking for a light speedy road bike that is not too, too aggressive. My cross comp (cyclocross ) isn't too bad actually on the comfort. Just a bit heavy.
Along those lines then, maybe take a look at the Raleigh Revenio carbon series. I've had numerous road bikes over the years ranging from Specialized, Kestrel, Trek, and Litespeed to my current Raleigh Revenio 3.0 carbon for the last 4 years. I've never been a big fan of Raleigh anything until this bike. It is by far my favorite since the geo is relaxed enough that a 40 mile, easy ride is comfortable, but if I want to tuck into the peloton and average 21mph over the 40 mile ride, I can do that too.
When I picked mine up, I simply pulled the entire Tiagra/105 component mix off the bike and replaced with the Ultegra/Durace mix that I already had, threw on a Thomson Masterpiece seatpost with Adamo saddle, and a superlight Bontrager wheelset. Last time I recall weighing the bike it was just under 19 lbs.

Wow. Performance is going belly up. I would say one of the few instances when the LBS wins over the big box, but betcha Backcountry.com (competitive cyclist) and the other online retailers finished them off. Thanks for the tip, though. Heading to. Their website now.
