Any success stories for seat replacement?

I'm looking for anyone's advice or information about successful driver's seat change out to something (anything!) more comfortable...basically the damned cushiest scenario , I love everything about my runner but the seat gives me an unwanted chiropractic adjustment within minutes. I don't get on here much but I'd be happy to return the favor somehow if anyone can point me in the right direction.

That's odd. I'm most comfortable in the 4Runner seats! Most other seats really hurt my back.

How many miles are on them? Maybe they just need new foam/innards.

Haha, that was my first thought too. But I'm a tall thin guy and these seats were made for me.

You could look into getting it restored, sort of like what you can do with a couch or piece of furniture. But not sure if it'd be cheap or not.

I saw someone put Range Rover seats in their rig, if you search it should come up. They are not bolt in but dang, are they comfy. I've sat in some at the junk yard (which is where all Range Rovers end up in 5-10 years) and they are niiice.

I've seen someone put in Corbeau seats that looked good. Apparently corbeau has the seat adapters to mount them as well.

I will certainly watch this thread and appreciate forum input.

The pain from the seat comes to my right leg after long trips. It's probably just a foam support issue. I've been using a small pillow to elevate the leg. I'm definitely interested in an upgrade.

bassglass If you have the cloth seats that are similar to what I currently have, then I feel your pain. After 4 years of searching, I was finally able to score some leather seats yesterday that are in good condition for 17 years old at a heck of a price. I'm not sure if you like leather or are against it, but maybe seeking out leather seats might help you out some. I prefer the leather to the cloth in terms of look and comfort ability. Not to mention they are electronically controlled, so that's neat, too.

I'm also in the market for a "total makeover" of my seats. I'm leaning towards replacement OEM seat cushions and the Okole covers. (Group Buy going on now.) I read on the forum somewhere how disappointed someone was with the Corbeau seats. They started to fall apart on him. Not sure which model they bought. I think if you search it will show up.

Had cloth seats, switched to leather hoping they would be more comfy. FInally swapped in Mazda3 Grand Touring leather seats. The Toyota ones would gradually make my right leg go numb

Interesting, I have a bad back and cant sit for long periods, yet I can drive for two hours at a time in my runner and have no issues.

Ah-ha! I found the answer to my own question. It's as simple as drilling out the footings on the 4runner seats and re-attaching them to the rails of a new seat (assuming the rails are similar width as the 4runner seats). I will be doing this soon as I can't stand my stock seats. Major back pain even on my short 20 minute commute. So glad I found this.

I guess I'm all alone on my own limb....I didn't like the leather seats. It wasn't that they weren't comfortable, I just never felt 'planted'. I recently swapped in some cloths out of a 2000 I found at the junkyard....MUCH better

My son's 2003 camry xle (leather) seats are the most comfortable I've come across. These are worth swapping in IMO.

On the other hand, I put new leather and new multi-layer foam (starts off baby butt soft and increases in firmness as pressure is applied), that cost about $750, well worth it to me, better than new! :cowboy:

Let's start with figuring out which seats you have!

Base seats, sport seats or leather seats? There were at least 3 different types in the 3rd gen...

I'm not really happy with the stock non-sport seats (but they have held up well for 275k miles!), but I have a set of sport seats in the garage to be cleaned up and installed...

Yes I get the same rt leg pain on long trips, I didnt get the pain driving my Lexus or Towncar when I had them, The seat bottom was just a inch or two longer providing support almost up to the back of your knee. If you can find some seats from an older LS400 you will surely be comfy.

They are the exact opposite of `bolt in` i was the one who did it, and will never do it again. although they are comfy af, there are much easier seats to swap in.
