Any two-5th gen families here?

My wife drives a 2002 Suburban with 257k on the original drivetrain. The 5.3L Vortec leaks/consumes about a quart of oil every 3k miles, but it refuses to quit. We can fit pretty much our entire lives into that thing...it has seat belts for 9 plus ample cargo space even with the 3rd row in use.

Whenever it does finally decide to die, she'd like another Suburban or something huge like it. I don't like or trust the newer Suburbans as much, and she'd be open to the idea of a Sequoia. She says she'd be ok with a 3-row Highlander, but I know she'd think it's a major downgrade from her current 'Burb, even if it were a brand new one. I love the 4R so much I think I'd rather stick with Toyota, whatever we get.

The other option is to give her my 4R with the 3rd row for hauling kids and get a Tundra for work. Or another 4R! Are any of you two 4Runner families? A 3rd row model for hauling the kids, and a TE for work/play? Two 5th gens doesn't seem very practical, but at least for me, I would be spending less on fuel than I am now!

We actually have a total of three 4runners. Two are 5th gens.
My wife’s is a 2016 SR5 Premium w/3rd row. It’s for her little trips and getting her friends around. It’s the clean car. The dog not allowed. It stays clean.

Mine is a 2017 Off Road, for fun, occasional driving on the beach, and for long trips with the dog.

The remaining one was our first 4Runner and is a 2000 Limited. It’s the thrasher for just around town & mainly for hauling the dog around for daily beach time.

We have 2 2017 SR5s. There's literally no point to having two... except I guess I only have to keep one kind of oil filter on hand...

We have a 2017 LC 200 and just got another 4R. Picked up a 2018 Off Road Premium last week. Really like both.

A quart of oil every 3k isn't even that bad. I'd bet the transmission will go first. I wouldn't call the 5th gen a replacement for the good ol' Suburban, but the third row in the 5th gen should only be used for kids. It might fit the bill for now, but kids almost always grow.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking will go first as well. If we can get to 300k on the original tranny, I'll be extremely happy.

We currently have a 3rd row SR5, and our young kids love that back row. It is difficult to get cool air back there in the summer without rear air.

Why is there no rear air on 3rd row models?

I had a tacoma ac 6 spd. wife didn't want to deal with the small access cab for loading/unloading baby and the bed of the truck for storing things.

In the begining, i regretted not getting a 4 dr tacoma instead because as mentioned below...there is no point in having 2 4runners but you get use to having 2 T4R.

Not two 5th gens, but I have 2 4Runners, the 4th Gen being a dedicated off-road toy. I also have a Silverado and an Acura 4 door sedan.

Personally I like GM trucks too, and I would take one over a Sequoia. I think the newer Tahoe and Suburban trucks are a lot nicer than the Sequoia.

That said, an optioned Suburban is approaching Land Cruiser territory. Unless you really need another SUV, the versatility of a pickup truck adds a lot to the family fleet. You might want to look there before doubling up on 4Runners.

If you were going to drop coin on another 5th Gen, I would consider a GX instead after owning the 5th Gen. Also, selling my Silverado is one of the last things on my mind... too much utility to owning a truck to not have one.

The trans has never been rebuilt? Dude, you need to write to GM. That thing has lasted twice as long as it should have. They should put it in a museum and give you a free Suburban.

My wife has a pearl limited ‘14 and I took over her old black limited ‘12, coming from a 2nd gen with a manualized 1uz it was hard to accept the heavier rig and imo underpowered v6, after getting the trd intake; dt headers + mid pipe and borla exhaust I am happy with it now. My background of vehicles is a plethora of modded mk3 supras and other current daily being a modded Lexus isf, why I feel the 4.0 is under powered..

Yea we have 2 - 5th gen 4runners. My wife buys new cause she puts a lot of miles for work and needs a dependable vehicle. When she gets a new one I get the hand-me-down which is usually about 4 years old and I don't feel bad taking it hunting and fishing at that time cause there are probably a few dings or scratches by then. She likes the TEP or now the TRD-ORP because she thinks the hood scoop looks sporty and I don't argue cause I think the same and also like the diff lock and other features that come standard on the OR. Now that she has the '15 TEP w/KDSS she could not get one w/o KDSS so we had to order an ORP w/KDSS and it should be here in a couple weeks. One thing is that we don't have 2 the same color though. Currently MGM and super white and the one on order is silver.

"i dont like it" was what my wife said when i brought it home...now she cant keep her hands off of it.

Id surely love to get her a GX or T4R Limited with all the luxuries in it to make it her own...and keep her hands off of minez...:bravo: i love my wife!!!

My wife has a 2006 SR5 with the V8 and I have a 2015 Limited with 3rd row. She had her 4R before me, I had a Nissan Titan and decided to get a 4Runner and I love it.
