Any updates from those who have had P0120 (TPS?)

Hey guys, check engine light came on this past weekend but didn't have a scan tool at the time. Reset on Saturday, got a tool (thanks [MENTION=83885]Dirtyfingers[/MENTION]) and it finally came back on this afternoon. Came up with P0120 - throttle position sensor. I read some threads on here that were several years old. Most people said it was the sensor itself, and when the light came on after replacing people were suggesting circuitry, MAF sensor, o2 sensor, etc.

None of the threads seem to have been updated more than a week after taking action. So I wanted to see if anyone here had dealt with the code in the past so I can get your updated impressions. Thank you glorious people.

I think I had that a few years ago. Replacing the sensor cleared it up and it hasn't been back since.

Yeah, usually when people don't report back means that the problem was fixed.

OBD-II vehicles are usually spot on with these kinds of codes and can get pretty specific. The ECU is seeing some wonky voltage readings from the TPS which trips the code, replacing it will get those readings back to where they should be.

That's what I wanted to assume but better to spam the front page to make sure. I'm going to start by cleaning the air filter, MAF sensor and throttle body and probably throw a can of seafoam through the PCV valve. Then if it pops back up I will look into replacing.

One thing I thought about that may have triggered it. I ran the sport hood without the insert for about 2-3 weeks before I got the scoop in, and during that time took a 7 hour round trip up to Mammoth for snowboarding. I'm wondering if that section of the engine bay being exposed to the elements for a while had anything to do with it.

That is very possible. Although occasional moisture is fine, such as if you hose off the engine bay, repeated exposure could cause it to fail, especially if water got in the plastic housing.
