So, after anti freeze smell inside(per wife) I couldn smell inside and floor is none dry, I can't find any leaks anywhere, but do get a light smell up front only nothing on sides or towards back of engine. Is there any way to see if the water pump is leaking without tearing it apart to get everything out of the way? Hoping to wait until tax return comes in and having the dealership do the timing belt/water pump, but need to check its condition until then if I can. Dealership quoted at $938 and I have 20% off parts and labor. So about $750. The head tech told me he'd check the tensioner and pullies since they may not need replacing and he had never had any go bad(not sure on that) he said it was a suggestion by Toyota and just to get the dealership more money when everything may actually be fine? Thoughts on that too?
Any way to check water pump leak easily? T belt question on pullies too

The water pump is pretty buried under everything (I just did mine).
My truck is passing 211k right now and where mine was leaking (I lost maybe 1 quart a month) was the thermostat pipe and the left side coolant outlet gasket (the split metal pipe just aft of the intake manifold that the thermostat attaches to). The pump itself was only just beginning to weep and it had well over 130k I think on it. Anyway, those gaskets can be done without cracking much anything open and they cost $8 from Checker.
For what it's worth too, my tensioners had a bit more play in them than I am comfortable with, so I ordered new ones from the dealer. I think they were only $60 for both.

When I talked to the guy at the service counter he broke everything down for me, water pump was around $75 and labor was for 1.5 hours. T belt was around $40? And labor was around 5 hours.
From everything I had read you get to the water pump by removing everything like you do to swap the timing belt. I asked the guy if I just had the pump replaced...and mid way through called for the timing belt would they just add parts since he already had most of the stuff off. He started to say yes...then said "hell...I know what your up to". We both laughed, he said no have to charge labor and I said ok in a sad voice. They were really nice and the service tech seemed to really know his stuff. Glad they can at least joke around, guess I know which shop to give a shot and earning my business haha.
I wasn't sure if I could pull off any covers and peak down there.

Its hard to see evidence of a leaking water pump on a 2UZ-FE engine without it in the air on a lift or being under the vehicle as there are really only two very small areas you can check.
