Anybody else have morning squeaks from the brakes ? 2020 4Runner [emoji23]

It only happens once in the morning . Some say it’s normal but I don’t think it’s normal. My old 2000 4Runner had brand new brakes installed and never squeaked once [emoji23]

A 10 second google search leads to like 8 separate threads about this. Tons of people have this in the 4Runner and across other vehicle models. It’s a thing. A vehicle isn’t going to make no noise. Machines with moving parts make sounds and vibrations, especially when cold.

Brakes are shit in my 5th gen. When i hit 30k, i will change the fluud, bleed the system and slap some Hawk pads on. I don't care so much about the squeal 1st thing in the morning, but the function is driving me crazy. Feels like air in the rear lines.

Oh ya I feel you on that one! Brake upgrade for sure! Do you mean that squish noise when pressing the pedal? My Tacoma did that too.

every morning or prolonged sit time for me, in reverse its even louder.

Maybe they changed the pad material, because I only started to hear brake noise as you described once I changed my brake pads and rotors with OEM parts. The pads from the factory never made any noise when I bought it back on 2016.

I called and the head of mechanics in the dealership brushed it aside as normal especially in winter where moisture and temperature contribute to squeaking noises for the first couple of brake application in the morning.. now it’s summer the noise actually went away

My 2020 has it, too. It started maybe a month or so after I bought it. Usually is less severe or gone on warmer/drier mornings. I'm sure my neighbors love me when I go squealing out of my apartment complex at 6:30 in the morning.

Every vehicle I've ever owned does this when it sits outside overnight(especially when it rains). Parking in a garage or changing to a different rotor material are the only things that will "fix" it. The squeal is basically just the surface rust being scraped off.

Yes, I concur. Especially if you live in a moist area. It's just surface rust or condensation. Tap the brakes a few times and it should go away pretty quickly.

had this on my 2015 6 months ago using akebono brake bads with oem rotors for less than a year. The pads worked well, but wore really fast du to extra weight and tire size. the problem pad seemed to be the inner pad driver side rear.

when I swapped them out for a complete powerstop package, the squeaking was gone, calipers compressed evenly and breaking was well... noticeably better.

so first, pop your wheels off and check the inner pads as well as the out ones. for some reason, the inners wear faster than the outers. fronts should wear faster, however i believe they are also thicker. if you see any uneven wear, that could be your issue.

We went camping and drove around the camp site early in the morning and all you heard was the brakes. Brand New 4Runner. It probably deterred people from thinking about buying a 4Runner [emoji23]

its also possible that you have a frozen caliper. if you see uneve pad wear on a brand new runner, take it to the dealer for a warranty repair.

Toyota said it was because they use organic pads now. They are environmentally friendly. [emoji23]
