since i have joined this site i have spent over 3000$ in my head planned out my whole summers income on my truck and what i imagine it too look like by the end of the summer.. this site is addicting to me and can't get enough of it i want to start modding my new love soon but am stuck in the last month of my first year of college. i have spent countless hours reading and learning about the many many things i can do with my new 4runner and am eager to hit the ground running. I'm sure most of you can relate to this and was wondering if there was a technical term for the problem i am having.. :thanks: for answering all my questions this is just supposed to be a funny post ...

Yeah, It's called financial irresponsibility. We all get it. If you are a student, then I would seriously reconsider what you NEED for your ri and what you just WANT. $3k is alot, especially for a student. You can have alot of fun the entire year with the $3k you are planing on spending on your transportation. Unless you are an off-roader that just can't keep up with his buddies in stock form, I'd re-consider.

Sorry to be a bummer; I'm sure some people will disagree with me, but I have been there... wanting to spend more on your rig than is even remotely necessary. Not the best decision.
 
It's all about budgeting. Like how you budget for food, rent, etc. Just put a little away over time and it will grow. It will take much longer than just a few months though. Just do the mods that are urgent first and slowly save for the rest, without killing your income for important things.

yeah really this summer I'm trying to lift it. i have the mud tires i can run for awhile after i lift it and have access to 4runner rims for 50 all together. so after that it will be to get new tires and hopefully addicted off road front bumper with winch if not i can live with just getting my lift and tires..
 
I am literally in the same boat. I have an entire list planned for summer, and I'm finishing my first year in college as well! Haha
 
I'm about the same as you. Before I had even purchased the truck I was on here planning my lift kit and tires. I bought the truck on Saturday and lifted it 2 weeks later. Now I need to sell my other truck and a motorcycle and I will have more mod money. Next up is some 285's with wheel spacers, then a stereo system, then I'm probably done for a while. I've got a baby due in October so most of my money is going to go for that.
 
Your not the only one! I am finishing up my second year of college and I often spend countless hours on here that should have been spent on homework/studying. Somehow I've managed to keep up. And yes, the list could go on with me as well. It seems like I have my mind set on one thing, then I come upon something else on the forum that fascinates me, and I start researching it. It's like a never ending circle that keeps getting larger. lol

I hope to see a bunch of new build threads to pop up this summer though and I hope to get some more work done on my truck. There's nothing better than logging on and seeing new build threads!

Just wait until you're working in real estate, married, the wife is in med school, a mortgage, a baby on the way in 3 months, and looking to move in 2 months...tell me again where my modding $ went????
 
Actually its the opposite for me. I bought this gem in the rough 8 weeks ago and I have spent a little over $1,000 in parts. However, without this website and all the great DIY threds, it would have cost me at least $6,000 in dealer service to do everythng I have done. I've saved about $5,000 which I owe to this great community.

I feel ya...in grad school, mortgage, paying for a wedding, and wife in nursing school.

I sold a bunch of random crap from the garage and did a couple side jobs...it was all I could do to scrounge up "extra" money for mods.
