Anyone changed our fuel pressure regulator and/or injectors?

I have close to 260K on my rig and I have reason to believe my fuel pressure regulator and/or my injectors are having some issues.

Has anyone on the 3rd gen forum tackled this and if so, can you provide any insight/tips?

Pretty straight forward. You can listen to each injector with a mechanics stethoscope. You can hear them clicking when firing. This will tell you if one is dead. If they are all firing then I would look into get them cleaned and flow tested. Have not heard of to many FPR issues on these trucks.

Way to test the FPR is hook a little hand operated vacuum pump up to it and draw a vacuum on it and see if it holds. If it doesn't or draws gas through then yours is bad. Mines bad.

Is it a V6?

Make sure you have a 17 MM box wrench.

Be careful when you remove fuel rail bolts that you don't lose the 4 aluminum gaskets.

Lubricate the FI o rings with WD 40 before reinserting them into engine and fuel rail.

Pull off the vacuum line from the FPR. If you smell gas in the line or see it come out, chances are the FPR is on its way out.

I'd try some injection cleaner such as the Royal Purple before your next oil change:

I'd find some used OEM injectors and have them tested and cleaned by Witch Hunter or the like:

What leads you to believe you have fuel issues?

Just make sure to cover the intake before you pull any nut/bolt/injector.

I want to thank everyone (so far) for the info and tips. I figured I will buy 6 new injectors and a new FPR. After all these miles, it is probably smart preventative maintenance and I plan to get at least another 260K out of this rig.....Thanks again guys!

I had a set re-built instead of replaced a few years back on my other Toyota at 280k miles. After the guy serviced them and rebuild all plastic/rubber components, they actually slightly overflowed a brand new injector and only paid $145 for 6 (he's local to me so I picked them up to avoid shipping).

Just a thought. Fuel Injector Cleaning. Sloppy website but top-notch injector servicing, he really knew his stuff.
