Anyone else do CrossFit?

I decided to take the proverbial plunge about 3 weeks ago and start up doing CrossFit when an affiliate (Dropping Plates CrossFit) opened up near where I live/work.

I don't think I've ever worked this hard in my life for a workout - including when I was in bootcamp. LOL BUT I'm seeing almost immediate gains in all areas, and improvements in areas I hadn't thought possible.

E.g., prior to starting, my lower back was constantly sore (due to a combination of me not doing strengthening exercises, and a previous back surgery). Now it's not sore in the least - and that's CONSIDERING the fact that I'm doing a TON of exercises that use it (e.g., clean and jerk, deadlift, push press, overhead squat, etc.)

I've also seen my stamina and energy level go through the roof; I've lost 3 lbs, and BMI is down 2 or 3%. :biggrin2:

I've been doing it for over a year now. Becareful when you start to lift extremely heavy weights that will start to tax your lower back such as deadlifts. Lifting 225 x 45 times its pretty taxing on the body. Learn about foam rolling and using a lacrosse ball to help stretch and push out the lactic acid. When you start getting competitive or going for PR(person record), you'll start to feel sore(the good kind), all the time. Also watch your form(or have someone watch you) when you are doing oly lifts. I cannot stress how important form is. Doing it wrong will get you hurt extremely fast.

Tluu - that's why I love the box we work at. All of the CF coaches there are prior personal trainers, have their CF certs and CPR certs, etc. They are *HUGE* on form and doing it right.

Trust me when I say that I'm big on form - I've had an L5/S1 surgery, ankle surgery, surgery on both shoulders AND bilateral carpal tunnel release. LOL BUT I have a clean bill of health from the doc.

I'm not going real heavy yet, but I CAN tell you my back is NOT in pain anymore. A lot of my problem, obviously, was the need to strengthen my core muscles. Now that that's happening, I'm doing better - e.g., am able to do 135lb snatches, 225lb deadlifts, etc. :)

Then TODAY, I was dumb enough to mention it was my birthday. Trainer looks @ me with that smile that never reaches his eyes and says "Oh REALLY. Well, let's make it a HAPPY one."

*facepalm*

Started off with a 400m run, then Burgener/Spealler warmups, etc. After that, it was 3 sets of 5 snatches.

The actual WORKOUT was:

- 36 box jumps
- 36 jumping pullups
- 800m run
- 36 snatches (not too heavy - either 95# or 105#)
- 800m run
- 36 back extensions
- 36 wallballs
- 36 burpees

I hate running in WODs with a passion but the funny part is that running/jogging is the actual resting part of the WOD.

I recently moved to a different box because i moved to a different part of town. They dont concentrate on form as much as I would like but luckily my previous box taught me(and was really strict) on form that I could keep myself in check.
I PR'd my first 135# snatch the other day doing the open WOD 12.2. I felt pretty awesome considering I only weigh 135lbs.

I think the main*** thing that makes X-fit attractive to many gyn goers is that the trainers force you to do a hard random workout.

Haven't done Cross fit, but I did the Insanity program (people behind P90X). It was two months, and it kicked my butt. But I've lost 32 pounds so far, so it must work. Actual P90X is next up. I like doing these because I don't have to pay memberships anywhere, and I can just workout in the gym at work early jn the morning when it's quiet.
