Anyone else having issue's with chipped paint?

It seems I can't get a scratch, you touch the paint nowadays and it chips off.

I use the toyota sealant wax religiously, but if anything hits the runner at speed count on a chip.

Am I the only one? We hit 20,000 miles today and I washed and waxed for the celebration:happy bda , but I was frustrated with the amount of new chip's. I easily have 15-20 now where I only had 2 or three at 15,000 miles.

Is it crappy paint? Why doesn't it scratch instead of chipping?

no idea.. . but you should see the front of my bumper... (black truck). I find that my truck scratches alot easier then chipping.. but thats because our city puts gravel/salt on the road during winter times.

All colors except white have chip resistant paint. I guess everyone else gets scratches, but we get chips. For that reason, I leave a lot of space between myself and the car ahead.

Ya mine chips pretty easy too, I really notice it on my front bumper.

Yeah, I seem to have far more chips in the paint than I ever had on my other vehicles. I've always owned American up til the 4 Runner and just assumed the paint Toyota used was prone to chipping.

I put 125K on my Bronco and didn't have half as many chips in the paint when I sold it as I do on the 4 Runner at 30K.

On the plus side for white, it is a lot easier to touch-up when you do get a chip. I've had good results using the Toyota touch-up paint and Langka afterwards to smooth it out.

I've noticed that when something hits my 4-runner, be it a rock on the hood or a door ding, it scratches all the way to the metal. I don't know if it's just the force of the impact in these cases or that the paint is ridiculously soft (which I expect is the case), but it's driving me nuts.

Paint chips galore on my Black 4R! The bumper, grille and front portion of the hood has more chips than a box of chocalate chip cookies! The largest chip I have is on the hood and it's about the size of an eraser tip. The majority of the chips are about the size of the tip (in diameter) on a ballpoint pen. Most of them only reach the primer and I have yet to find one down to the bare sheet metal. I'm a bit surprised to find a good deal of chips on the trim piece under the headlights. I used to do a lot of driving for my previous occupation in SoCal (San Bernardino, Riverside, Barstow, Ontario areas) and I often get stuck driving behind dirt hauling trucks and being boxed in so I can't change over to another lane. I've done several long distance road trips too and flying bugs are a real nuisance. I should've used a clear protective film long ago, but it's too late now. I guess I'll just have to get her front repainted every 3 years or so from now on. The rest of the paint on her gets waxed and pampered regularly

Yup, my front end is full of chips too. No matter how far away I follow the car in front of me, I still have a bunch of small chips all over the place. I don't have any scratches though.

For the responses guys,

I have quite a few chips that are to the bare metal too, the biggest one is on the pillar on the passenger side and it's easily two eraser sized, difinately a rock chip. The rest are all smaller but it's nice to now know about the white not being chip resistant.

The wife's been bugging me about a bra, guess I'll go ahead and get it now, and some touch up paint damnit. It'll be snowing soon and that means I need to close up the bad ones.

This sucks, 30,000 you'd think it wouldn't chip so easy. Guess this means I won't be buying my Tundra in White It's a few years down the road anyway, no need for a big truck in Germany.

Our '05 (with a little over 27,000 miles on it) has more chips in the paint than i care to count . Its black and the swirls i see a very disturbing also .

I have 47 k miles on a 2003. I disturbs me to wash her and see those rock chips. I have about seven of them. I believe the paint is thinner than most vehicles that I have owned. I also have a 1990 Corolla. It has about the same number of chips, but that is from sixteen years of driving it and not the 2

At least the white is easy to touchup. I use the bra for longer trips, or when heading out to the desert where there is all kinds of road debris that gets kicked up.

Yep! I've got a 2004 I've had since January with 10,800 miles. I've got several chips. I'm not sure what to do but it seems that the clearcoat on mine sucks. what's a decent bra that won't damage the paint from rubbing?
