anyone find velcro that works with 3rd gen carpet

Hi,

as the title states I would like to get some velcro that actually sticks to the 3rd gen carpets. I have already tried two types and they didn't really seem to stick.

Can I get a recommendation on a brand that actually worked for you?

GOAL: infinite uses ...


The goal today is to get the side lip of my weathertech liner to conform better to the carpet by putting little pieces of velcro on the sides.

But the fact is that I can't seem to find one that works. I know I must not be the only person who has tried to velcro something in the interior only to be disappointed. I believe there must be a type out there that works.

Gotcha. I believe the tehnical term for velcro is hook and loop. Fuzzy being the loop part. Im guessing the carpet doesnt have the loop properties you need to work with the hook stuff. Maybe somebody else could chime in...g.l.

If your talking about what I think your talking about then this should be interesting. I have husky floor liners in my 4runner and the one in the drivers floorboard is bent and conformed up on the edge of the right side from getting in and out and my foot hitting it for 6 years. Are you trying to get that edge to lay back down flat?

you pretty much covered what I am trying to do.

I figure if I could just get something like velcro that works on 3rd gen carpet then this will be an easy fix.

my issue is also on the drivers side floormat, rightside lip.

hoping for help from the hive mind!

I wish that would work but i doubt it will hold it down if you have the same hard plastic liners i do. I was thinking maybe I will take my plastic liner out and lay it upside down inside for a while with something heavy on top of it to bend it back down.

Epiphany!

Ok so this is either a great idea or a total fail but here is what I am going to try and do:

Somehow need to get the plastic to stick to the carpet, glue gun would cause permanent destruction so another method is needed.

Instead, I plan to attach a piece of plastic to the carpet so that I can then use 3M mounting tape to attach this new plastic to the plastic floor-liner - giving it a clean look.

If you look up at your 4Runner ceiling you will see many small circular clips that hold the ceiling in place. Each of these has a flat face and a push pin on the other side.

I am going to pull up the carpet (easy) poke a small hole wherever I need to use tape/velcro and push the plastic pins through the carpet.

Next trim the pointy tip to small nub.

drill hole through it and put a safety pin through it.

Lay carpet back down. Should sit flat but with plastic fastener attached.

Use 3M tape to mount plastic to plastic. Wipe first with solvent.

If done right the hole in carpet should be small enough so i does not show when removed down the road.​

Repeat until you have enough points, probably 6-8.

As long as you can get one section of either the hook or the loop section of the velcro to adhere to the floormat, you could get yourself a curved upholstery needle and some #2 or #4 lb. fishing line, and sew the other section of the velcro down to the carpet. This way you could always just cut it loose down the road when/if you're done with it.

Thanks, that is also a really good idea. I am kind of torn but i think you are right, just sewing one side of the velcro in with upholstery needle might be the easiest ... will have to think about it more. That will probably only take 2 hours max.
