Anyone from Utah?

I live in CA. I bought an 01 4runner years ago that spent much of its life in Utah. Rust wasn't deep but it was very present and made turning bolts a B***. I ended up wire brushing much of it away and doing a por15 treatment.

I just made a deposit on a gen4 4runner. Looking at the carfax this 4runner spent about 70k miles in Utah... but shows no signs of rust underneath and was never treated.

Apparently I cant stay away from Utah Cars..

Questions:

1) Are the frames holding up better on the gen4's than the 3's?
2) Is all of Utah salting its roads in the winter months?

Maybe this owner actually cleaned/maintained the underside of the truck? Thoughts? Thanks!

No, 4th gen (as well as 5th gens. For some reason dumbass Toyota wont zinc treat their frames and would rsther pay a 3 billion dollar settlement for tqcoma frames) has bad rust problems as well. Utah salts their roads like crazy. However, salt can only cause corrosion if its left on the frame. If the owner is aware, and took good care of it by spraying it down, you might indeed see minimal rust. Do you care to share the pictures? How detailed are the pics? Did he just spray black paint over it to cover the rust? Maybe he just got it recently sand blasted.
