Anyone have a link to how to remove factory radio

You have to start with the center console. Remove the black plastic by gently prying it up with a flat head screwdriver or something similar. Then if you have 4wd remove the screw that holds the shifter in place. After that you can remove the piece that goes around the shifters.
(Note: I'm not sure if there is a step here for '99 and up 4runners)
On '96-'98's you then remove the trim piece that is around the AC controls.
Once that is done you should see a few screws. Unscrew those and you should be able to pull the trim around that radio off. Be careful not to pull too far. The clock and hazard light connections are right at the top and can't be pulled out very far. Unplug those and you should have access to everything you need.
(Note: I'm not sure if there is a step here for '99 and up 4runners)

I didn't splice. I used a wire harness type of thing and just soldered the wires together. I have tweeters.

okay so I just ran outside and pulled apart my center console for the purpose of this thread.
I wanna start by saying DON'T USE A SCREWDRIVER, KNIFE OR ANY OTHER METAL TOOL TO PULL YOUR DASH APART. Use a tool made for the purpose. Regardless, this entire thing can be done by hand, trust me, I just did it.
Disclaimer: Don't mind the pollen EVERYWHERE. HD makes the good things look realllllly good, but also makes the bad things look realllllllly bad. Okay here we go.

If a '99 dash is the same as my '01, it should look something like this:
Step One: Open your center console door, and pull up the emergency brake. The cup holder panel will be the first to come up.
Pull up on the panel by hand. Here is a closeup of the clips that are near where the console door closes:
Once you have the top half up, work your way down, there will be two more clips at the very bottom, where it meets the shifter trim. Then this panel can be fully removed:
Step Two: The next panel that will come out is the shifter surround. Remove the one phillips head screw in the 4WD shifter (if equipped) in preparation.
Once this is done you can, again by hand, pull up on this trim piece:
Step Three: The next panel to remove is the radio surround. Turn the key to the ON postition and pull the gear selector to the L position, then turn the key off. (the key won't turn completely off or come out of the ignition)
Gently pull out on the bottom of the panel, then work your way up to the top:
Step Four: The factory radio is held in the same way as my AVIC, two phillips head/10mm hex screws:

Use the harness. It will bypass the factory amplifier, but any aftermarket HU will have a much better amp internally than the factory unit.

AVIC-D3 FTW:biggrin2:, Also one thing to note it that if you use an adapter you must use the harness that is plugged in behind the factory amp, not the one that goes to the factory head unit.
