Anyone have one of those android radios?

im looking to get a new deck in my truck and I've seen these out in the market for a pretty good deal... I've seen android radios and the reviews are pretty legit, I'm still trying to figure out how the wifi works or what you need to install it or it would work off my phones data coverage.


I checked the threads but there really isn't anything on here about that, does anyone have one in their truck? And if you do, how does it perform

So far i love it, decent screen size/resolution, fast. I might get one for the 4runner soon.

I have all my music on a SD card and can run any android app I want. I use power amp for my music. I also run Torque app to read all my gauges while I drive. I use my phone to tether internet to th radio.


I installed a ROM on mine that fixes pretty much every gripe I had stock but I still cant get my steering wheel controls to work but you wont have that issues from the 4runner.

The one thing thats held me back from getting a 7" screen headunit on 4runner is I feel it sits kinda low and will cause me to take my eyes off the road longer when navigating it since the touch screen takes longer. Let me know if you have any questions.

I had the same concerns with my runner, saw that it would sit kinda low but at the same time the units are pretty amazing with what they can do.

Based on some research, this is the one I'm going to get next. I never use DVDs or CDs so I opted for this unit because it's cheaper and has less moving parts. As a whole, most of these types of units are cheaply made and are not backed by BIG manufacturers but this one sounds pretty promising.

Well, since I use a tablet, I can answer that. Cooling is an issue in summer, my tablet will get hot and stop charging. Not a terrible thing but it keeps alerting me that it's hot and won't charge, rather annoying. Those Android radios have big heat sinks, like most radios do.

Shut down. I use the Tasker programming app to kill the display, stop the music, and kill an app or two when I turn the key off. Unfortunately sometimes apps fail, and then I'll come out to a dead batter on the tablet in the morning, which means no music for like 3 minutes. OH THE CALAMITY!

Bolt in. I'm on my 3rd mounting incarnation. When I got my tablet 2 years ago there were no specific mounts for it, so after a universal and one I modified to work, I currently have it velcroed in the factory double din spot. I'm going to pony up and buy the mount made by Pro Clip. The low angle in the factory location really does suck.

Phone connectivity. I use "Tablet Talk" to operate my phone with my tablet, but it's limited compared to a true bluetooth enabled head unit. Still works, just not as seamlessly.

Now I DO love what the tablet gives me(4g internet, google etc), and I don't plan on going back to a head unit, but if it were my wife's car, I'd just buy one of those.

I looked at them, but ended up just getting a decent head unit with a 3.5mm jack and pluggin in my phone. It has bluetooth, but a plug just works all the time and I know the connection is solid.

What model is that?
Is the sound quality good? That is my main concern with these it would be nice to have the features but if the sound quality is shit then its not worth it all in my opinion

Aliexpress special. My receipt says the brand is JRNAV, there is no brand name on the unit. Look up "4runner navigation". Sound easier to adjust than the FRS/Scion units, and better power as well, 4x40w. My opinion of course, but for the price these are great. This one was 320 shipped. Android 4.4 1.9ghz quad core.

Think it's about 4-5 gig space on radio, but there's 3 usb connections and 2 microsd card slots.

How does the 4g work?? I keep trying to find out how you get connected but I can't figure t out. Do you pay a monthly fee for a 4g network?? One source mentioned that if you wanted satellite usage then you just had to call them ahead of time... But I don't get, would the unit go off your phones data coverage or is that an option you pay for

It use your phone's data plan when you use the phone as a wifi hotspot. Otherwise it has a list of wifi available jsut like any other computer or phone it can connect to. If you need it while driving you pretty much need to use your phone, I don't need that much access though, offline navi works fine for me because I can always have the latest maps. Just got it so not sure all the tricks, but it pretty much does anything your android can do.

Right now it has all my needs covered. A few years from now I'll probably need something else lol.
