Anyone in San Diego help me change 2 CV Axles?

So I have developed a clunk, ping, pop, whatever you want to call it when turning my truck or articulating. My understanding is it's a CV joint, so with a few 4x4 trips coming up, I figured I would change out both axles. (Can you just change a joint?)

I know it's considered a simple job, but I would like the extra hand from someone who has already done it.

Can drive anywhere in SD county to meet and compensate however you want (lunch, beer, $ )

Could end link bushings like this be causing the problem?

CV's click they dont pop, i would check your front lower control arm bushings, on my jetta the bushing i changed out 30k miles prior and the bushing shredded and made a pop and clunk when i would turn left and it got really annoying. So chances are thats your problem. So buy some LCA bushings and throw um on there. Your description of the problem is exactly what mine was when i was trying to figure it out.

The swaybar end link you posted looks normal, that work really pop like an LCA will.

BTW are you up really earlier, or just go tl bed mad late?

A click vs a pop. It sounds like a slow ratchet. Like if you went up a roller coaster really slowly. From center to full lock it pops 3-4 times. How hard is the LCA bushing to change out? Is that something I can do while I am changing my cv's? For ~$150 I'll just change them out. I have heard a similar diagnosis being cv joints.

The words you initially used to describe the problem fit LCA bushings, a slow click like a roller coaster that speeds up as you move while turning is the CV's, so the LCA bushings require you to remove the LCA and the lower ball joint, which if we stick to your theory, you might as well replace the lower ball joints too if you are in there, but then thats another couple hundred $, but you can reuse the old ball joints no problem, but the difficulty of the job depends on if the bushing is all rubber and can be installed by hand, or if its rubber with a metal shell that its in whicb if that were the case then you need to either press it in, or get a hammer and 30 ish mm socket (whatever size lines up with the metal on the bushing) and bang it into the LCA. If its the latter one, then it will take like an hour a side if you dont run into any issues (which you wont cause you have a cali truck).

well there's a video. Does that sound like cv's? If you put a gun to my head and asked where the sound was coming from, it sounds like UCA bushings. not LCA, UCA. Sound seems to be originating too high off the ground to be CV's

Pull the CV out and leave it out like Jason said on the other thread and just drive it slowly in your driveway. If the noise goes away, you know it's the CV. That's about the best way to diagnose. You don't want to drive around town with a missing CV because you'll loose fluid and possible contaminate the diff with dirt, but it's fine to do just for a short distance in your neighborhood to see if the noise is still there.

Thanks for the response Brian. I think I'll go that route. Pull the CV, turn right a few times, try and find a bump to articulate the front, and see if I can still hear it.

Just get some gear oil to refill the diff because you'll usually loose a little bit.
