Ram , we have a flying field that is awesome just a couple miles from my house. Its awesome to go and watch.
If you got the money/time (flying requires some, or really, lots of both lol) then you ought to get a trainer plane, join AMA and your local club, and have someone train you to fly. If you "buddy box" with an experienced pilot, you risk crashing TONS less. Buddy Box is where you use a cord that links to RC Transmitters together. The trainer has the transmitter that goes to the plane, and you hold a transmitter of any channel, with a cord connecting the two. His transmitter is turned on, yours is off, it's powered by the trainer's transmitter. He flips a switch, and you have control. Once you start to lose control, he releases the switch, and instantly he has control and can recover, regain altitude, and "hand it back over to you" in a sense, by flipping that switch again.
Usually when training this way, you really dont lose any aircraft. It's when you get soloed, and are on your own, and get into an odd situation, or start flying out of your skill range (low inverted passes, barrel rolls too low, sharp turns at low speed upon landing, etc) that will get you.
Once you get proficient at it, you will enjoy just going out on a quiet afternoon, gassing up, and buzzing around for 20 minutes or so at a time. I enjoy just doing tons of touch and go's. I can set one down so smooth it's like you gently placed it on the runway by hand. LOTS of landing practice. Because afterall,
takeoff is optional, landing aint!!
