It would be nice to have a 99 or 2000, but I won't be picky.
Anyone know of a link to any online electrical manuals out there?

For the 4runner for either 99 or 2000, yet one for the 3rd gen may be just fine.
My buddy's aunt in Ohio has a 99 2wd Limited, she was off her feet for some time for surgery and a squirrel chewed up a couple of wires during that time. After he fixed the wires her stock radio now comes on but none of the buttons work but a CD or tape will play. I am thinking a short somewhere but email diagnosis is difficult.

thats weird that the radio turns on but the buttons dont work.
i can get schematics but just need to know an area of the vehicle.

This is the only one still up that I know of--it's for a 2002. Toyota has been sending out take-down notices.

Thanks Durk. This will get him pointed in the right direction hopefully.
+1 on being the mice. They made a nice little nest behind the air box and ate through three wires. He needed to take off the alarm horn to reconnect the wire, he spliced it back, but did not mount it back to the wall right away. If the 4runner uses it as a ground, who knows what kind of problems could have occurred.

mouse damage
I have an SE5 1996 4Runner. I just found a pile of rubber bits and insulation under the firewall area. A mouse apparently chewed up the rubber wiring grommets and actually chewed through some wires. Since then I've been disassembling under the dash and along the R fender to extricate the wires and do repairs.
One puzzle: there is a blue wire extending from the lower bundle, but I can't find another broken end in the bundle.
Any clues?
I've had other mouse damage. I installed a 1/4" screen on top of the heater intake to keep the little beggars out of the heater, and a screen in the intake snorkle to the airbox.
I'd be interested in a pdf of the electrical manual, if anyone could oblige. [email protected]

If I get an electrical manual, I'll PDF it to anyone who asks, but have not found one yet for the right price.
To end the story with the mice: my buddy's aunt is diligent with her 4runner maintenance so before her surgery on her foot (could not drive for 2 months), she had the oil changed along with new wipers, air filter and new winter tires. Well, they had some new wet behind the ears kid changing everything and he was eating a hot dog while doing all of it. Part of the hot dog fell behind the air box and he never found it. Well the mice sure did. Guy fessed up, and the shop did all the work for free.
Moral of the story: don't eat around your 4runner's engine bay while performing maintenance.
