Anyone know what this on/off switch is for?

Can't tell where the wire is going, it leads to the bunch of color wires and is among the pack of them. Any ideas? I have an aftermarket alarm and remote start, and an aftermarket head unit. Other than that, I haven't touched it. Both alarm and head unit were installed for free professionally so I'm not sure what the guy did and I don't see how that switch, currently in the 'ON' position can be part of it. Any ideas?

I wouldn't think so. The switch was pretty hidden in there, I found it when I took the entire dash piece below the steering wheel off to change the bulbs in the switches. I can activate valet mode through the key fog. Maybe tomorrow I'll flip it to off and see what happens...

That is my vote, I bet if you switch it off you lose some functionality in your stereo.
 
If not valet I would flip the switch and then test if the alarm makes sound. I know on the viper alarm I have there is a switch to turn the speaker under the hood off

Just a standard, single din Pioneer headunit with Bluetooth, iPod, CD, AM/FM...No DVD player.

Hmm, that's interesting. Like I said, I can control all of that (silent arm function) with the key fob. And the guy never said anything about this hidden switch either. I guess I will find out at some point today.

Could also be a remote start enable switch, since you mention you found it in the "on" position. My remote start had a wire that is required to be tied to ground in order to enable the system to work. If you were taking it in to be serviced, you could flip the switch to force the system not to allow the remote start function to activate. This could prevent an accidental engine start while the oil was drained or something like that. (You really should have a hood safety switch that offers the same protection.)

I'm pretty sure it's even the same style switch. I am about 1500 miles away from the runner now, but can look again later this week.

To my knowledge I do not have an alarm. I do have factory nav/dvd.

Post back if you find anything out. I haven't flipped the switch off and tried anything yet, too busy. Maybe tomorrow.
 
Looks like an older DEI valet switch. If you have a Viper or variant, try turning the ignition on and flipping the switch on. Does the LED stay on solid? If so, that's valet mode. (remote locking/unlocking only, no alarm).

As far as I know - from personal history:

Valet switches are usually momentary push button switches.

This toggle switch is used to disable the remote start feature, I guess if you know you're not going to be using remote start for a while (summer) and you don't want your truck to accidentally start, flip the switch to off for summer, back on in the winter.

I just jumped mine out when I installed remote start, just because I knew I would never turn it off, and I didn't feel like mounting / hiding an extra switch.
 
It sure looks like the same switch. I've turned it on/off and tried various things but can't see any obvious function. I'm stumped until I can dig in further or someone shows up with the answer.
 
This has become an obsession.

I could not trace the wires from this switch without pulling a couple panels. Once I did, I found 2 small black boxes that clearly looked to have been shoehorned in behind this panel. One was completely nondescript and had just a few wires connected. The other was a bit more substantial and said "Guidepoint" among other things. Looks like Guidepoint is a Lo-Jack type product/service. This immediately made me believe I had solved another mystery - the unknown buttons/light on my left dash:

Turns out this guidepoint thing also has a cell radio and can be used to make emergency calls if you subscribe.

I then returned my attention to the switch. It looks like one of the wires leads to the guidepoint unit, while the other disappears near the OBD port. I see guidepoint has some sort of OBD integration, so I suspect this switch is related.

I also figured out that I do have an alarm. I am assuming its either factory or dealer installed as I do not see anything that appears aftermarket. I do have a hood pin switch along the drivers side edge, but I assume its part of the alarm.
