Anyone mount Rotopax under the truck?

Has anyone mounted Rotopax in place of the spare tire ? I’m curious as this would save room on the roof rack.

I understand your perspective. But I do not want to go through the hassle. Adding a gas can when needed seems more ideal. For me at least.

Kind of an interesting idea IMO, I’d want to put some kind of skid plate though..

Then just chuck it in the truck or put it on a tire carrier?
I've also never really had a problem with leaving gas in the sun, but I also only use airtight metal cans and they are either completely full or empty.

I don’t have a problem with putting it on the roof. Already do that. But let’s say you put a RTT. Then what? Yeah you can put it on the rear bumper. But need water !

Too bad the tire lowering 'system' wasn't incorporated or a larger rotopax to at at least take more advantage of the space the spare took up or take it to the next level and have an inlet/outlet pump to avoid the lying on one's back!

Ive got a 1gal I just keep in the cargo area. I had it mounted to the gobi ladder for a while but I don't like the idea of it sitting in the sun all the time.

I can't think of a good spot under the car for one. But as long as it wasn't near the exhaust it should be fine.

Rotopax Fuel Packs on roof - Swelling problems?

I added 2) 4 gallon rotopax's underneath (where the spare tire used to be) over 2 years ago and haven't had any problems what so ever. I'm lifted, locked, dual cased, blah blah blah. I look for difficult trails that lead to remote places, and it's nice to have the extra fuel. My rig is not a daily driver and I view the rotopax as 'emergency fuel'. It would be nice to have an auxiliary tank or relocate the tank, but I didn't want to go thru the hassle.

By the way, they still swell in the summer (it gets over 100' here), but probably not as bad as if they were on the roof, in direct sunlight. The amount mine have swelled, never prevented me from removing or replacing them, just made it slightly more difficult.

Also, you have to get completely underneath the truck to remove or install them. I don't mind this. I just watch my fuel gauge, and if I know I'm getting low, I find a flat dry spot to 'fuel up'.

Arghh... I did take the pics Sunday afternoon, and I've tried multiple times and methods to upload them, and everytime I get an error message "upload failed".

I have uploaded pics from my computer (the method I tried) before and it worked fine. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

If you have any suggestions, I will try again to get the pics.

Thanks. This is what it looks like from behind. I'm down on the ground taking this pic. When standing up they are not noticeable. I modified my exhaust after I lifted so they are not close to my tail pipe. I can get another pic later if you need




This is from the side (obviously, ha) and again I am close to ground when I took this pic.





First I cut out the spare tire cross member completely.
Then, I used some scrap 3" x 1/8" (I don't remember the length, I can measure if needed) flat steel and welded it to the truck as pictured. Then I cut and welded 2 pcs as sketched (in last pic). I welded them to the first piece and drilled holes and bolted the end closest to the bumper into factory tapped holes. Then I drilled and bolted the rotopax 'brackets' to them.

That’s great work. And you say you wheel some hard stuff and no issues ? You could of tucked it little better if you mounted your mount not on the bottom of that body part. Picking up what I am saying ? I really like it. Again. Great job.

I think I know what you're saying, and if I was to do it again, I'd probably try to tuck them up a little tighter, but that being said, I've never once touched them on anything.
