Anyone on here have the TRD dual exhaust?

I’m in need of a new exhaust now that my tailpipe rusted off the muffler. Funny thing is that it still has most of the plating with no other rust other than right at the muffler connection. Anyway, I’ve been researching exhaust options and I’m intrigued by the TRD duals, but can’t seem to find any sound clips, or reviews on it. It’s pretty rare and expensive these days so I don’t want to drop all that money only to wish I went a different route. No matter what, I’m planning to go with a stainless system. I also have the DT headers, so it should sound and flow nice with the right system.

get a muffler guy and have him put new piping with a borla muffler, sound is more tame than a magnaflow muffler. to do duals with the pipe tuck up high, you will need to lose the spare. even with my borla duals, the driver pipe runs parallel with the rear axle, not a good design for you off roaders since the rear axle articulates.

So, if I’m understanding correctly, you are suggesting buying a Borla single in/dual out muffler, then have the tail pipes custom bent? That is certainly something I’d be open to, if I could find the right person to do it. Therein lies the rub... finding someone around here to do it. I’d also want stainless for obvious reasons. Losing the spare is of no concern as it would save weight, and I’m not a serious off-roader, so my AAA card could take care of a flat if need be.

I’m basically curious about the TRD system because I’ve seen threads discussing it, but never found anyone saying they actually owned one, and there isn’t any videos on YouTube either (at least not that I could locate). It’s a nice looking system, but I have no clue how it sounds.

i know why the system is more tamer than the others, its the resonator that they have before the muffler. i think if you have the shop chop it off, the sound is more noticeable.

Just an FYI, if you have no spare onboard AAA can't help you with a flat other than towing you home or a tire store, not to mention the waiting on AAA to get to you, but if that's OK with you then by all means do away with your spare.

Yeah, I know what you mean regarding the spare. I would never call AAA to change a tire for me, but I was saying that if had to remove the spare, I’d just have them flat bed it home so I could take care of it. Most of my toy cars don’t have spares either for weight savings, or because of custom wheel/tire combos anyway. In the past, I’ve carried an onboard mini compressor/battery jumper pack to take the place of a spare, along with the AAA card in case of a complete blowout/sidewall tear, or something like that. Obviously if you’re off-roading in the deep woods or something, then a true spare is necessary.

There's a good chance you would have to call AAA to come tow your truck on a flat bed any ways because the spare tire chain usually is seized from rust.

Or you can mount your spare tire on the roof and then no problem for dual exhaust.

Yep, I had a 2000 v8 Explorer that I had a hell of a time getting the spare down the one time I actually needed it, lol.

With regard to the dual tip, the other system I’m considering is the stainless Magnaflow with dual tips coming out on the passenger side.

Yep, I had a 2000 v8 Explorer that I had a hell of a time getting the spare down the one time I actually needed it, lol.

With regard to the dual tip, the other system I’m considering is the stainless Magnaflow with dual tips coming out on the passenger side.

I have the dual exhaust one the passenger side and I can tell you I love it! I bought the Catback 15781 and it is direct bolt on. If you were to install it yourself..

You need to buy:
New exhausts mounting bolts and springs.
New OEM gaskets
Probably a torch to torque the old rusted bolts to remove it.

One thing I wished I did, was coat/paint the exhaust to prevent the welding point corrosion. Even though there's a lifetime warranty on magnaflow. (I live in Canada where it is snow for like half the year and salt the roads)

I had a few friends who had custom exhaust jobs and I found it too loud, heard borla and found it not loud enough, flowmaster was just a consistent loud exhaust. I personally found magnaflow a in between while at idle it was quiet and when you stepped on the pedal you hear music to your ears.

But then again, depends on what you really like right? Everyone to their own needs and wants.

That’s a very interesting product that I never heard of. I wonder how long that adjustment screw will last though, since everything related to exhaust rusts so badly unless it’s high grade stainless. I like the idea of being able to tune the sound though. That’s very cool. I’m not opposed to having a custom system, it’s just finding the right local shop that has been challenging, which is why I was looking more at bolt in systems.

u mean you have a magnaflow cat back.
its different from the TRD.
trd had 2 version, one with the dual that exits out each side, and a single version too like the ones on the fj cruiser.

I actually had a family member up north so the seller actually dropped off the exhaust. It was a bit high price for the exhaust, but overall been pretty happy with it.

I had this muffler thrown on in the beginning of winter, I live in Philly. I just adjusted it a bit the other day, still smooth as butter to thread.
