Anyone recommend a 4x4 Class?

Stockish/mild jeeps: They think the easiest obstacles are hard, they cheap out on the most important gear, they are SUPER sloooow, and they think they have the greatest vehicles on earth.

Fully built jeeps: They think no other veicle except their has the right to be on the obstacles, they spend WAY too much on basic parts, they are SUPER slooow, and they think they have the greatest vehicles on earth.

Next time you run across a jeep on the trail, try to ask them for some help finding a trail, or ask them if they think your truck will make the trail ahead, or ask them if you could pass them because they are a little slow. I hate jeepers and I continue to give each of them a chance and they continue to disappoint without fail.

I took the Getting Started day 1 and day 2 at Badlands. Don't regret doing so. If you can afford it and have the time, it's well worth it. And since you don't have to take the 2 classes back to back, it's pretty convenient.

I've had plenty of "wish I knew that before" moments in life and I didn't want off-roading to be one. Day 1 is pretty ho-hum. Day 2 starts out slowly, but gets pretty intense. Plenty of butt-puckering moments.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Exactly what I was looking for. I had plenty of learn it your self experince and common wisdom before I took my first track day on a motorcycle and it was an eye opening experience.

It is important to know it is not either/or. You can (and I plan on) taking a class and you can learn with a community. It is all good.

If you ever just wanna go tool around on some trails to learn some things without there being a large group just hit me up, I'm surrounded by trails. Their even in my backyard. I'm at the base of Joshua Tree at the 10 and 62.

I learned a lot going with a group as many others have said. The Badlands day 1 and day 2 class is good, but expensive and you need to take both.

I took the Badlands Sand Driving class instead and it was great. He gave good input on all types of off-road driving and I thought it was well worth it. Pismo/Oceano is good fun and will help you to not be afraid of deep sand in other off road areas. I would recommend it.

I rented quads at Pismo few times and saw people in Trucks getting stuck on the dunes. It would be fun to take that area on in the 4Runner one day.

Another good thing with this group is no one gets left behind. If you end up stuck, in a precarious position or break something there are plenty to help you get out of the situation.
