Anyone running the Yakima Offgrid roof rack?

was doing a search for roof racks and I keep going back and forth on what I want..Looks like Yakima just came out with this new rack and I like the way it looks.

Curious if anyone has one on their 5th gen and what they're using for cross bars..post up some pics if you have them..

I like it...it requires cross bars? I prefer the look and versatility of the LFD modular rack systems.

can't opine on the rack other than it looks very similar to the rola rack - have run the rola in the summers the past 3 years and it's great - inexpensive and pretty easy to attach - that said, I have long desired a way to simply run my ski racks with the rola and not have to swap them every winter and your link gave me an idea....

looks like yakima sells some accessory bars that attach to the top but are a few inches too long - could easily be cut down to fit, the only question remains whether the diameter of the tubing is the same or similar...

I digress, but I would strongly recommend the rola rack - same concept, much cheaper and 3 years in I don't have a single complaint aside from the desire explained above (which I don't think is worth the extra $350 to purchase this yakima rack)

You bet, I think you're right it's mostly just paying for the brand name. I've noticed a fair amount of Rola racks around town here in Denver lately as well. The key is simply using some sealant when you put it together to avoid any potential rust issues inside which have been reported - I just took the time to prep it and sealed the joints and have had no such issues. For $130 or $140 or whatever, might be worth a go until you decide whether it suits your needs or not.

I've been eyeing the LFD 3/4 as well, or possibly just getting 4 of their crossbars and the two end/baskety-type pieces and using my stock rails which would make everything much more low profile than my current situation - to be honest, it comes down to what you want the rack for. I use mine for strapping down all sorts of random gear and cargo for summer road trips & camping and prefer the basket style, or at least want something that isn't flat. I also ski a lot in the winter however so the trick is finding a way to not have to switch ski racks/basket but have both.
