Anyone try Cryo treated rotors?

Looking at possibly replacing the rotors and want something better than stock. Just wondered if anyone else has tried the cryo treated rotor route with new performance pads. What results have you had and how much did you pay?
Here is just one site I found quickly. http://www.frozenrotors.com/search/index.php
Also what do you suggest for new pad to decrease stopping distance without a bunch of break dust or noise?

But, why? Would you notice the major difference in a truck? If 4Runner weighed 2500 pounds then, yes. But stoping 5500 pound machine is a bltch. I'd say the best way to improve your braking is to go with biger rotors and new calipers or brackets to fit those rotors. I wouldn't pay for cryo treated or carbon rotors because for daily driving they would make no difference. Good luck.

I think the stock pads are a great balance. Many aftermarket pads squeak, need to be heated or dust like crazy.

As far as the rotors are concerned: These rotors seem to be popular in the WRX community. If you

from what I understood the cryo treated rotors last a lot longer. Not worried about warping rotors because I'm not doing autocross with my vehicle. I just understood that they wouldn't wear down as quickly as no cryoed rotors.
As far as brake pads go I just want a little bit better braking without a bunch of noise or extra dust. I remember reading on here a while ago that some guys had good luck with Hawk pads.
Since I have the Sport edition I already have slightly larger rotor and they work pretty good but I think the stopping distances have gotten longer in the past year or two. That is why I was thinking of changing the rotors and pads. I don't want to go to or even know if I could go to larger rotors and calipers.
Just looking for something a little bit better than stock. I think alot of people out there can understand that because that is why so many have modified their vehicles in the first place.

I don't know about the Hawk pads. If you try them be sure to write them up:D

The cryo rotors vs Napa premiums may not be worth the extra $$$ if you aren't turning big tires, towing or otherwise stressing the brakes. Slotted Cryo's would definately be 'tricker' and more fun. Even though drilled looks cool slotted is usually the best choice ranking above plain, drilled and drilled&slotted.

Those rotors are good, especially with hawk pads.

The factory rotors ain't worth a $hit, I mean they stop, but they warp like crazy.

Resurfacing is a waste of time, and the warping comes back, even with new pads.

I have the part numbers here somewhere.

But IIRC it was about $310 for the front end, sans labor. (no need to pay a shop to do it).

For some it isn't worth it, but for us it is, we are no speed racers, but after man years of brakes, so far hawk pads, and Toyota pads are the best, and frozen rotors are the best. (They are actually brembo blanks)

I currently run Axxis ULT pads on stock rotors with stainless steel brake lines. excellent stopping power.

You will probably want to upgrade to the cryo'd rotors as the stock rotors just cant hack the more metallic content of the high performance pads.

Food For Thought

Based on my old Titan, my experiences and the message boards I offer the following:

Nissan used a very similar system to ATRAC. As people experimented with aftermarket pads (self included) some unintended consequences arose.

Aftermarket pads such as ceramics sometimes feel better, work better etc but require more pedal effort. It's a firmer, "better" brake pedal but it does require more effort.

The Nissan version of ATRAC was marginal for a few reasons; 2 of which are as follows: The brakes were not quite big enough for the weight of the vehicle and the 5.6L is truly an awesome torque producer for a gas motor.

In the case of the Titan the functionality of its' ATRAC was hampered by the use of some aftermarket pads as it was calibrated to work with the super sticky, rotor warping, filthy factory pads.

Mine had a locker in the rear and a wiring mod that allowed the ATRAC to work while the axle was locked. I could definitely feel the penalty on the front end especially if the brakes got wet.

I don't know how important HD use of the ATRAC is for you. The T4R system feels so good and aggressive I am reasonably sure it'd work fine even with the handicap of slightly less sticky pads. It's just something to think about...

Not going for a look. Just want better brakes. No need for cross drilling and the added cost. Slotted is a good possibility.
There are definitely better rotors out there compared to the factory. You could say that about almost any OEM rotors and pads.
Thanks to everyone for the input.

You ever get rotors and pads? I'm looking at Cryo treated as well. My front rotors started shimmying the other day and not knowing the exact history I'm wanting to start from scratch w/ better rotors and pads.

I disagree. I beat the living hell out of my brakes and I'm still using the factory rotors. It is amazing that they haven't warped yet. I have a Sport Edition, so I'm talking about the bigger rotors (338 mm). For anyone running the smaller rotors with 17" wheels, I'd highly recommend upgrading to the bigger rotors. But you'll have to get new calipers to go with them. Still though, I do find my factory set-up to be very good.

Cryo is the equivalent as snake oil as far as i can tell. Try to find some empirical evidence that it makes your brakes last longer. I know they do it on other motor parts, but I haven't seen anything and can consistently say cryo'd rotors are better.

I will agree with your disagreeing. What is diagnosed as warped rotors aren't really warped. It's uneven pad deposition. See here for more details.
StopTech : Balanced Brake Upgrades

Change the pads to something more aggressive after cleaning the rotors. You won't see the shimmy's and pulsating again.
