Anyone interested in a short 1 hr traverse over the top of Palomar mountain on Saturday?

The whole trail can be done in an hour but it is about 1.5 hrs drive from San Diego to get to the top / start of the trail.

The weather alert says 4-6" snow is expected Friday night above 4000 ft. and 8 -10" expected about 5000 ft.

Meetup would be the trail road over Mt. Palomar State park coming up from the 67.

When: April 21-22, 2012, 7:00 am

Where: Meet at the intersection of County Rd. S-2 and S-80 (just north of I-8) in the
town of Ocotillo (not Ocotillo Wells)

Who: All members and guests of Tierra Del Sol 4 Wheel Drive Club of San Diego.
Guests are always welcome.

Communications: Ham Radio 147.480 Mhz Simplex, CB Channel 14
(Trail Boss will primarily be on Ham Radio)

What:I plan to camp overnight Friday night near Dos Cabezas (GPS N32° 44’ 45.7”
W116° 8’ 23.3”) to minimize early morning driving. We will leave from Ocotillo at 7:00
am on Saturday, April 21st. We will travel north on dirt tracks (and as little pavement as
possible) past Dos Cabezas to Canyon Sin Nombre. From there, we will travel on the
Canyon Sin Nombre trail, see the Carrizo Stage Station, and take Diablo Dropoff into
Fish Creek Wash. We will see Sandstone Canyon, then travel down Fish Creek to camp
near Split Mountain. On Sunday, we will exit out Split Mountain Road, then cross over
Hwy 78 west of Ocotillo Wells, and continue north on the Arroyo Salado Trail, crossing
through Borrego Mountain via Buttes Pass Rd. We will continue north to the Truckhaven
Trail and to S-22. At that point, we will either select from other trails in the area if time
permits, or head for home.
This run will offer some steep and rocky challenges, but will mostly be travel in sandy
washes with spectacular desert scenery. Four wheel drive is required, as well as the
required safety equipment as listed on our website, Tierra Del Sol - Four Wheel Drive Club of San Diego. You may join us
for either day if you wish. Please carry plenty of fuel, as the closest gas station to the
trail is the Blue Inn, east of Ocotillo Wells. There is fuel near the trailhead, south of I-8.

I've literally ran Canon sin Nombre to Diablo Drop off to Fish Creek about 20+ times. There are a couple fun obstacles. My favorite area is Fish Creek going up towards Pinyon mountain/heart attack hill... There are 4 fun off camber climbs/decents in a row before you hit heart attack hill, which I still have never seen anyone go up.

I'll most likely be meeting up with the group fri and camp both nights. I'm not sure how many will be going, but I'm sure it'll be a good group. There is also a group going to Mojave this weekend.

I'm so damn tempted to hit the road and go up to Bear tomorrow. It'll be the last opportunity to go skiing for the year.

Not much in the way of wheeling (aside from passing all the cars with chains), but could prove to be fun. Any skiers/boarders thinking the same?
