Anyone using an IFS locker?

Just so I don't get slammed for not looking...I did search, but have not found a thread regarding this specific topic. So here goes...

I have read the articles on locking an IFS, and know the pitfalls.

What I want to know is anyone actually running a locker in their front IFS?
How do you like it?
What tire size are you running?
Breakage?
What locker are you running?
Do you wheel rocks or mud or both?

I am thinking of getting an Aussie Locker for my front end.
I have an Aussie in the rear.
I only run 32's, and do not plan on going larger. I also do not plan on lifting my truck any more to "encourage" larger tires :)
I still have the 4.1 gears, but really could use a re-gear to get some more power that was lost with the slightly larger tires.

Opinions?
( I am also posting the same question in the 3rd Gen. section )

Please abide by Rule 8.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry for the double post.

The reason for this was not everyone has both a 1st & 3rd gen.
Since my question would relate to both trucks, I thought it would be seen by both groups.

I don't have a 2nd, 4th or 5th gen. and not really interested in the discussions therin.
So, how do I ask the same question of people who only have 1st gen. 4runners and only look in that forum?

Honestly I would go ARB air locker and not like a lockrite type set up because of the clicking and popping the running lockers have.

I've got an Aussie in the back, so I am quite familiar with the clicking. Kinda used to it by now.

I was wondering the successes of anyone using any locker on the IFS and the problems they have encountered.
Especially with smaller tires.
Oh, by the way, I do have the 4.7 low range in the transfer case.

ohh i see, Im not familiar with anyone on here with running lockers. Have you tried either pirate4x4 or yt? They should have someone with them at least a tacoma with that set up for reference.

yeah i'd go with a a selectable locker like a arb as well, unless you don't drive it on the street and if that's the case just get a spool, lol.

lockrites and the other ratchet style lockers are only good for off road use vehicles only, imo, to much wear on to many parts on the street otherwise.
not saying you couldn't do it but get ready for excessive wear on tires and other components.

O.K.
I see your point.
BUT, this mainly is for the 87 4Runner with manual hubs.
So streetability is not an issue as the front hubs are unlocked most of time.
Also, I don't have snow issues to worry about since it has been since '88 ? since it snowed in Orlando.

I do wheel rocks, so that is mainly where I am going with this truck.

If I go locker up front, it will be Aussie. Can't beat the price :)

Thanks for the other write ups...informative...but they seemed to also be concerned with roadability.
Changing over to manual hubs was one of the first upgrades I did!

Thats true Aussie has great prices compared to others, although i have not wheeled with anyone that has anything other than a rear locker with IFS. I would think pirate4x4 is your best bet.
http://pirate4x4.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=56 I couldn't search because i dont have a log on but it might be in there somewhere.

yeah few of us here have off road use only rigs, we like being able to drive to the and go up it as well, instead of 2 trucks for one trail (one truck to tow the other to the trail head, lol) but we do have a few, and it really does sound like you want to know more about your 1987 runner then the 3rd gen, this is the 3rd gen section, you get way more of the non street guys over in the 2nd gen sections. sorry i couldn't be of more help, your just in the wrong place section for most of us to be able to help, if you give it time you'll get some more of the hardcore guys coming through, but i don;t know what they'll tell you about your '87

Another good source and have lots of people running lockers in IFS rigs on it is TTORA.com I know of a few that are running the Aussies front and rear like you are asking about and are very happy. Since you have the manual hubs it is not an issue to run a full time locker. Just remember that since it is not selectable (i.e E-locker or ARB) then you will always have to be aware of throttle position and if you start to bounce then get out of it.

YUP, I guessed as much.
I posted both in the 1st gen & 3rd gen since that is what I have and read both sections.
I do not frequent the other generations as they do not apply to me specificaly.

The moderator removed my 1st gen post and added it to this thread, so I no longer have the question where I really need it.
( see the begining of the thread )

Hey Mr. Moderator sir, can you move all this to the 1st gen section??

Thanks for the advice on TTORA & the throttle. Will take a look :)

I'll let you know soon. Right now I'm getting 4.88 with elocker in the rear and
an arb up front.
