Hello, i just purchased me some nice set of wheels and universal spline lug nuts on amazon.
I am curious what people are using to protect their investments. i know these universal lug nuts can be easily taken off by the bad guys. I don't live in a high crime area, all the bad guys are 5 mins away..... Seriously though, any suggestions are appreciated !! Thanks!

I have set of genuine toyota wheel locks. probably on the pricier side but I can attest that no one has taken my wheels and after almost 10 years, they still look great

I, too, have the genuine Toyota locks. They are made for Toyota by McGard. Another plus is that all Toyota dealers are required to have keys for them in case you loose yours.

I can take off toyota wheel lock lug nuts by slamming a 12 point 5/8 socket over it and zipping it off. I can steal a set of wheels in under 10 minutes.

If someone wants your wheels then they will get them off. First thing I did when I got my 4Runner was take the lock nuts off. There are even special sockets made for talking off security lug nuts.

You can have my security lug nuts free if you pick them up from me (not shipping). I live in SoCal.

word of warning, in addition to keeping the lock key nearby in the event you have to do a roadside repair, also be mindful that your new lugs/locks might not be the same size as your stock lugnuts and consequently, the tire wrench in your spare tire tool kit will no longer be usable

Toyota lug nut locks were a cram down when I bought my 4runner.....I had the dealer take them off and replace then with removable lug nuts before I would take delivery....... as you can see from the feedback they don't provide protection ------in New England you are just adding an overhang that you will not be able to find the "key" and actually be able to get them off in the middle of the winter because that's the only time you get a flat------cold snow days.

Dash-cams seem to be a more comprehensive deterrent?

I've got a set of Toyota McGard locks that came off my 4R after I bought it. It's somewhere in my garage and you can have them. I'm over in Frisco. LMK

All of my wheels got scraped up over the years, so I hope they aren't appealing for theft, LOL.

Michael.

i have the toyota lug lock. great one. at least give the thieves some work to take it out. maybe they will learn to have a better work ethic. :)

yes ive seen youtube videos on ways to take these types of locks off easily. I appreciate your generosity but think i am good. Not going to use a lock set, hopefully my security camera will watch my truck for me. thanks

thanks everyone, ive made a decision not to use a lock set. going to risk it and hopefully my front security camera will back me up at night. Thanks!

im using spline lug nuts, in conjunction w/ a 2 way paging alarm w/ tilt and window sensor.

If i didn't have to park outside, i wouldn't need the wheel locks.

I have the Toyota (McGard) brand. Perfect fit for Toyota lug wrench. Actually, were the only ones I could find that were not cone shaped and correctly fit the stock 20-inch Limited wheels.

Yes, won't prevent a determined/prepared theft but just might slow one down or cause one to look elsewhere.

I'm using the same plus a wheel lock on each wheel along with an App that comes with the alarm

If they want your rims and tires they will just take the whole truck.

Ask me how I know ,Over the years I have had Five vehicles stolen

When I went to ID the remains, the wheels were gone along with every thing of value. (This is Why I still have the stock wheels)
I changed out all my locks to the standard lug nuts to make rotation and flat tire changes easier for me and my mechanic.

I would be more worried about my catalytic converter being sawed off in the Home depot Parking lot with a Battery powered Sawzall.
This is the big thing in LA right now.
