Anything else?

I'm currently in the middle of an engine swap on my '92 (old stock 3VZE to a remanufactured 3.0 bored .30 over and cammed) and I thought I'd ask the gurus on here if there's any mods/adds/replacements I should go ahead and get/do since I'll already have the engine out? I'm kind of leaning towards a new starter just cause it's the original one and it looks like it'd be a huge pain in the a$$ to replace it, but other than that I'm open to any suggestions! one thing I'll do for sure is try to cap off this bimetallic valve if I can figure out how, the damn thing broke and it's not very cheap, so if you've had to do that please share how! :thumb:

Starter sounds like a great idea, how about the oilpan gasket since it's already out? or any other gasket you think may be worn or wearing out. Pics when you can please!! I'm really diggin my '92 project.

Well what would you like pics of!? Ive took a billion for references for when I install the new motor :biggrin2: and as for the oil pan gasket, the new engine came with a "complete" gasket set (it even has head gaskets even though the heads are already on the block) but I don't recall seeing an oil pan one. I will definetely change it either way tho, thank you for the reminder!

Oil pump, all belts and hoses. How many miles on the clutch?

I'm going thru and replacing all the vacuum lines and radiator hoses (vacuum lines are extremely dry rotted and cracked), but is there others I should probably replace as well? And as for the oil pump, the new engine came with one so I'm good for that, and it's an automatic unfortunately :(

Any pics you care to share would be fine. :pop2: Pics of the truck, the old engine, the new engine, maybe a before and after of the engine bay if you plan to clean or paint that too. :bigok:

Maybe replace that Fuel pulsation damper while it can be reached? I just had to do one and its a ***** to get to. Would suck to have a gas leak a few years down the road - and if vacuum hoses were shot, the seal in the damper could be on its way.

Okay so last night I ordered a Gates water pump, Dayco idler and tensioner pulleys for my timing belt, OEM bimetallic valve ($60 for that little SOB), a new air intake hose, and tomorrow I'm buying a new starter and power steering gear box (mine is leaking unfortunately, that's $250 itself), along with all new vacuum lines. I'm still looking around for the fuel pressure regulator, is there any brand or anywhere specific anyone reccomends? Also, I have a new catalytic converter, muffler, and I bead blasted my exhaust manifolds so I can coat them with a silver header paint. It's gettin there slowly but surely!

If your engine has that oil cooler on the drivers side, next to the motor mount... replace both those hoses. They are a huge PITA once the motor is back installed.

And i'd say might as well do the clutch, the kit i just put in was only 90 bucks. And the rear main seal. Maybe check out/clean the egr too

Well it's an automatic, and it's a new engine I'm putting in so I don't need to worry about the seal. However, this may be a dumb question, but how do I clean the EGR? I've sandblasted it and I'm going to paint it to match my manifolds (silver), but how do I clean out the inside?

whoops didn't realize it was automatic. To clean the egr just pull it off and clean out all the carbon on the inside. Brake cleaner should work just fine. make sure the valve moves smoothly.

Awesome! Thanks for the info! Ordering a new tranny mount and fuel pressure regulator here soon. SHOULD BE the last two things other than vacuum lines Ill need to get, but who knows, I'm sure I'll run into something else that'll need replacing!

For some reason this whole time I've been thinking I needed the pressure regulator...I don't know how I got that mixed up with the pressure damper. Anyhow that's ordered and will get picked up tomorrow, but after this is all said and done I'm going to play it safe and just test my fuel pressure just to make sure I don't need that regulator as well...my luck I probably will!
