NC(4)Runner, phqduphead, 4runnerfiend and myself at the old water tower in South Borrego.
Nice day, no wind, little warm at 80 deg.
Went from Ocotillo to Ocotillo Wells and used as little of the S2 to get there as possible
Oh heh, and the picture I've been using for my SIG for so many years was actually taken on the little hill near the wood pilings to the left in that photo

Not one of those, but I carry a Garmin InReach both for GPS location on a map on my iPad, but also for emergency satellite communications.

Very sorry to have missed this thread! I'm a longtime San Diegan, new 4Runner owner and wanting to meet some folks to explore locally. Did Fish Creek over the summer but turned back after finding a Jeep sunk up to its frame in mud near the caves--and me out there solo with no winch! Want to go back out with some folks and explore. And probably not a couple days after a flash flood (which I didn't realize last time).

I'll see about making it out for this.
I would love to do the squeeze someday since I've never done it. But with a 5th gen, it's a 90% guarantee to lose the passenger side mirror at minimum from what I've seen on the net
So I'll wait till I get my old truggy ready to go. Heart attack hill and the upper part of Fish creek after the squeeze aren't so bad. (Well depending on the yearly changes to them)
Probably do the moderate though it's exactly the route we took two weekend ago

It's a tight fit but definitely doable without breaking a mirror, just takes some time and a good spotter to line you up rightOh nice

How do you fit your huge balls under the steering wheel?
Those pics are insane and had me cringing at how close you are.

Not sure how I've missed this thread til now. I've done all of the mentioned trails except the squeeze. I was able to do Calcite with stock tires and only a small lift. Definitely a couple of pucker moments though!! I'm really looking forward to getting back out there soon.
I have an InReach SE messenger and a Spot 2. Having ridden motorcycles outside of cell coverage for so many years, I've always had some sort of emergency beacon.

I started my club when I had my cherokee, I could beat that thing and take it anywhere....
I went to the dark side when I bought the yota so I cant let the other guys in jeeps win lol. This thing is goin wherever I want it to
It was the first scratch in it since I got It though, minor on the drivers fender flare and minor on the driver door, first of too many already lol

Looks like [MENTION=68308]phqduphead[/MENTION] and I were the only ones who were able to make it out for the TTORA run this weekend from t4r.org.
This was the last run being done by the ttora.com socal president before he steps down. He's been doing it for 7 years and is time to hand over the reigns to someone else. However, no one else has stepped up so far and that forum is starting to become less active according to the drivers we talked to. Hopefully they get it all sorted and can remain a group. It was a solid team of folks who turned out, you can tell they have known each other for years.
We met at Fish Creek Camp ground around 9am, did a drivers meeting and then hit the trails. 14 vehicles in total.
First run was up Buttes Pass road past Slot Canyon and out West towards Borrego Sink Wash Road.
The 2rd run was Coyote Canyon out to have lunch and back in the afternoon. Our trail leader had his lugs and bolts sheer off and required quite a bit of trail maintenance to get him mobile again. Stole some bolts from a 4runner who had spacers and someone had spare lugs.
[MENTION=68308]phqduphead[/MENTION] had an electric impact gun and there were many positive comments about having that on the trail "saved the day" was repeated often.
By this time it was getting late and we headed back to camp. The desert was busy with all the traffic as it comes being the first weekend after Halloween, good thing we set up camp before hitting the trail as it was dark when we returned and there was a steady flow of many groups looking for sites until well after dark.
Some others (without kids who wanted dinner) headed and did Calcite mine and returned well into the evening to camp.
Morning came and some folks hit 1-2 runs before departing for home, so all in all there was a lot of action to choose from and was pretty fun getting out there for a weekend with the family and good folks on the trails.
We didn't stop much so the pictures are slim.
