AOB Switch Wiring Question

So I'm in the middle of wiring an AOB switch up to my Rigid Duallies (no relay b/c switch is rated at 3 amps and the lights only pull 2.2). I'm trying to retain my dimming controls by wiring the switch illumination and ground into an existing switch (in my case, the DAC on the center console).

So I have both of the power wires from each light running to the battery and to my AOB switch (red wires in picture that are connected).

My AOB switch ground is attached to the black/white wire with silver stripes coming from the DAC switch (pictured).

I had the AOB switch power (green/yellow) wired into the solid green wire coming from the DAC switch (has a T-tap on it in the picture).

Lastly I had the other AOB switch power (blue/yellow) wired into my cigarette lighter (other T-tap in the picture).

The way I just had it hooked up, the lights were on regardless of the switch..
Also, my left blinker is blinking fast now, so clearly I blew a fuse. Any idea which fuse that is/why that happened?

even though those are rated for 3amps i would highly suggest running relays. and you most likely blew one of the interior fuses, i cant remember which it is but i know its in the fuse panel under the kick panel. it blew either because you cycled the switch with and open circuit or the amp load when you first turn the rigids on is to high when added to the existing load on the tapped circuits.

i used the same points to get power for my AOB switches but ran them to relays and haven't had any issues. the only time ive blown a fuse was when i had a connection come loose causing an open circuit when i turned the switch on.

To actually answer your question on how to dim the lights in them you are gonna have to find circuit that is controlled by the dimmer switch on the dash and tap that for the power for the lights in the switch. you can either probe the plug to find the correct wire to tap or find a wire diagram from a service manual. ive personally never been bothered by the lights in my AOB switches since they are rather dim, or at least the amber arent.

The DAC switch that I'm wired into should have the dimming feature, I'm just trying to verify I'm wiring into the correct wires. Do you have any idea?

I don't have experience with the AOB switch, but I have taken FJ aux light switches off of the DAC switch. I don't recall using the all green wire you mention. I didn't have any luck finding a diagram for the AOB switch and since I haven't done it myself so unfortunately that's all I have for now...

I'd try taking green/yellow AOB switch power off of the DAC green wire and instead putting it on the white wire with green tracer next to the green one (this is a dimmer wire, so to speak, if I remember correctly).

However; I wouldn't be surprised if you still blow a fuse and this wasn't right either. The fact that your light is always on means something else is not right somewhere in the wiring.

I actually changed the ground wire from the black/white stripe wire to the green/white stripe wire to the right of it and it fixed the switch to where it dims correctly (finally).

Only issue still is getting the lights to actuate from the switch. I think there is a short circuit between the lights and the battery terminal. So I might swap in a relay to simplify things due to all diagrams having a relay in it. Good idea?

power your relays direct from the battery with a inline fuse. they will only draw current when they are actuated by the switches. the high beams are a bad idea since they are only on when you turn them on, not even an auxiliary powered circuit. plus im not a fan of tieing into other existing circuits, it can lead to weird things happening
