App on iOS to turn iPhone into car dashcam??

I have a dash mount for my iPhone to use for navigation on my Sienna...it allows my iPhone camera to point straight ahead. Is there an app that i can use to turn my iPhone into a looping recording cam like those dash-cameras that people mount in their car just in case there is an accident?

I guess that i can press RECORD in video mode every time i get in. But is there one that loop record? Or does this heat up iPhone too much on a long drive?

Any good app?

I know you said apple, but it does seem to be there are more available for android to date. Again this is probably due to how strict apple is with their apps and software.

I do agree with one of the comments I read, after a while can be annoying to dock and set up everytime, as opposed to just buying and mounting a dash camera that turns on when your car does..

The other thing to note is storage, I'm not sure how big Apple's internal memory offerings are and if they've gone to offering expandable storage via micro SD (seems like a few manufacturers go back and forth on it every model). But if I recall some of those dash cams have very large internal memories for the HD video they record before looping over and deleting it after X-Time. Not sure your iPhone will do that effectively enough?

Then again I suppose you really only need it for that one time you get into an accident. It's a good idea, been considering a dash cam for my vehicle as well; not a bad bit of insurance I suppose.

Storage is not an issue...i have 256GB!

The problem i have with after trying a few of those apps is that my phone has too many damn functions that i use in a car! My phone is connected via BT to my car for phone calls and my Apple Watch. My phone is connected via USB to my car’s audio system (for music). My phone is also my navigation system.

So, in the apps above, if i use my phone to make a call, then this interrupts the video recording...and then i have to restart the video recording after phone call ends, which pulls my attention off the road, which is not good. (Yes, i can stop and do it, but that is a pain.) And if i play music thru my iPhone, then that introduces another set of issues etc..

Basically, my phone is doing too many things at once...and the 3rd party apps are not really optimized to work with other apps running at the same time.

Ok, back to square one...maybe i just need to suck it up and pony up for a real dash cam. But.......that iPhone X sure looks nice. Dammit!

Agreed i see what you are saying. I guess that is part of the problem is maybe you are asking too much of your phone. I use mine for waze(maps/gps/notification of speed traps), waze teamed up with Spotify so i can at least use those two functions seamlessly. If I get a a call its great as it overrides the music but I still have access and view of the waze map. I agree I mean it is all relative in cost, but to buy a product that is specifically designed for that task may be better than a swiss army knife that you are already maximizing use on.
