Apparently dad liked my 4R more than I thought..

I got a 4Runner back in April after driving Nissans the past 4 years. My dad just sold his Nissan Frontier (had it for 4 years as well) on Tuesday and called me today to tell me he bought this:

It's a 97 SR5 4x4 with 148k miles. He overpaid, but that's probably because he did lot financing.

Question: Does anyone know why the bumpers are gray instead of chrome? Have they been replaced or are they standard on the 97's? Just curious.

Mine came with dark grey bumpers. They're factory, but just not as common as chrome.

Then my brother bought his. '01 SR5 2wd

I think the grey bumper came with the 4 cyl.

I hate chrome too, but it seems to have held its finish better than his gray bumper. It looks dull.
