For me, i appreciate Apple's simplicity. But ATT just sucks, esp. where i work. More and more, i am becoming impress with my Samsung Epic 4g from Sprint...great reception and call clarity (my two main requirements for a work phone). The "apps" are not as cool as Apple's, but i hear that this will get better as Android becomes more popular.

we are an Apple family, I have a Macbook (recently upgraded from a Powerbook g4 which was upgraded from an Ibook G3) and an Iphone 3g

My wife has a Macbook and an Iphone 3gs

My mother in law jumped on the train because of us and has every new Apple device imaginable new macbook, ipad, iphone 4(which ends up spoiling my 4 year old who has an Iphone 3g(not activated) an ipod touch(I jacked that one for my 4runner) and last years macbook)

I can tell you from owning PC's and several gens of Mac laptops that you will have a ton less issues with a Mac. The interfaces are always intuitive and smooth, the hardware is always simple yet stylish and the software is as stable as a frickin rock...

The Iphone has many of the same attributes, BUT... its biggest downfall right now is its Carrier... ATT bites the big one, I am no longer joking but dead serious when I tell people "Att more dropped calls in more places"

the 2nd problem that will end up costing Apple the #1 spot in the mobile market is its refusal to accept the fact that mobile phones are now mini computers and if I want to customize or get to the root filesystem of my mini computer, I should not have to fight Apple everytime an update comes out. The arrogance that Apple has shown in the last few years is downright upsetting. the way that they unsuccessfully tried to turn their Iphone users into criminals pisses me off! (read about how they tried to illegalize jailbreaking)

Heres where Android steps in. Google is an amazing company and they will not rest until they have created 10 or 20 phones with the Droid OS that will blow Apple out of the water, the evolution just in the last year speaks volumes about Googles approach, from the Nexus one to the HTC incredible to the Evo to Droid X... they have covered every carrier that Apple isnt on with the absolute best they have to offer and the options on the Droid X make me want to go get it today. only thing holding me back is the fact that my wife and parents are on our family plan and its cheaper than a single plan. Apples downfall here is the slow migration to any other carrier... and the fact that they will only put the Iphone OS on a single piece of hardware, giving the consumer little choice. For me, it comes down to that choice, go with Apple who arrogantly locks down their software like Microsoft in the 80s, or a Droid phone on a far superior carrier that I wont have to fight with everytime a new software is released.

Give me the freedom, give me the customability, Ill take a droid phone and a Mac laptop...

edit: one last thing I have noticed... alot of the people (not all obviously) that take the time and extra money to buy quality Toyota products also put in the extra time and money to buy a quality Apple product or computer. Its an interesting relationship.

Just thought I'd throw this out there.......didn't see it posted yet (i also didn't look that hard to find it) but Verizon is gettnig the iPad on the 28th. I work for Verizon and I hear the When are you getting the iPhone question at least a dozen times a day. Its coming.......just hold on.

If Verizon actually does get the iPhone I don't see AT&T being able to hold on to it's share of the market.

I'm really curious if more people will buy the top Android devices (Droid X, Droid 2, ect...) or the iPhone.

One thing Verizon is going to have to change if they want to be successful with iphone is being able to surf the web while on the phone. I used to have the iphone 3g and barely had any calls dropped, now verizon on the other hand I have had more calls dropped, phone shuts off when it wants to, and not being able to look at stuff on the web while your on the phone really sucks. The one reason I would get the iphone on verizon is if they have an unlimited data plan. At&t is going to loose a lot of customers if that happens.

As far as Macs go I will never own another windows based pc again. My macbook that I am still using is the first gen from 2006 and is still running stronger than my girlfriends year old top of the line hp. All of my friends thought I was crazy spending over a 1000 dollars on a 13" laptop but now they have ate their words cause it seems like every other year they have to buy a new laptop and I have been using the same one for almost 5 years. People can say bad stuff about macs but look at the facts in 2005 1 out of 9 people owned a mac but now in 2010 1 out of 5 people do. Just think in 5 more year it will probably be 1 out of 3 owning a mac. Also during this recession apple has been one of the top companies making money and going strong. Say what you want about apple but they are the future.

When I talked to a verizon rep about being able to surf the internet while on the phone and he said no verizon can do that

No, it's a limitation of CMDA technology unless it's changed in the last year. Sprint and VZW are CMDA carriers. Though the word on the street is VZW will be moving to GSM. AT&T and T-Mobile are on GSM.

This is where GSM has it's advantages over CDMA, of simultaneous data and voice sessions. The other is GSM can also do more than a 3-way call, hosting more than 2 other callers. With CDMA, the other other parties will have to connect to the 4th caller and up.

I have had the droid incredible and I now have the droid x and neither of them have been able the browse the web while talking on the phone. My friends have had many different brands of laptops and mine is the only one that has lasted longer than 3 years. Theres a reason why so many people are switching from PC to Macs every year.

Your wifi must be on cause I just tried with both my incredible and x and each one keep saying there is no internet connection while on the phone but when wifi is on I can surf the web while on the phone

i've been in the pc industry forever, the first pc i built was a brand new 386sx. before that i used all the way back to the timex sinclair.
you have to give apple credit. when they made the move to intel, they stepped into the realm of the windows pc and they have been holding their own. i use a mac pro dual quad core desktop with 16gb of ram and four 2tb hdd, and a macbook pro with a intel g2 80g ssd and a 320gb hdd in the optical bay. it boots way faster then sensible.

i use windows 7 on both machines alongside OSX. both have their place.

what apple has done in the last few years is turn around a company on the verge of collapse to become the second largest company, now catching up with exxon for the title.

the ipad is a phenomenal item, i was against it until i found use for it as a wireless control surface for logic, making it a very capable midi controller and audio control.
while windows still maintains 90% or so of the market, which isn't tough, considering most companies still use windows xp machines to handle company email, word, excel, and enterprise solutions.

apple does one thing the other companies have yet to manage, they make slick hardware. the glass trackpad is perhaps the best trackpad on the market.

the major place where apple lacks is when it comes to gaming. few video card choices and game support lack. windows dominates when it comes to gaming.

Yep, thought I had posted a reply to this, but Uneek, you are 100% correct and as soon as you said that I remembered.

GSM can do Voice and Data at the same time, CDMA cannot. Im not too familiar with the 4g technologies yet, but Ive heard they support it.

Before I got my Macbook Pro last year I had a HP for five years.

For some reason my family and I haven't had terrible problems with Windows based computers.

My current company uses HP laptops, lots of various issues with them, the 6910 and 6930.

The past companies I've worked for they used Dells, the reliability seems higher.

I never had a problem with a Windows PC that I couldn't fix myself. Both Mac and Windows have their pros and cons. For me, Windows allow me to do a whole lot more than a Mac can, such as a Media Center/HTPC. Until then, Windows all the way.

Hello,

Recent Mac switcher. Own 2 MBPs, iPad, iPhone 4 and iPod. I like simplicity, ease of use, and no headaches. Windows gives me headaches from maintenance. I do run Bootcamp/VMware Fusion 3 with Windows 7 on a Core i7 8GB RAM 17" MBP, which is a vast improvement from Vista.

veriZon has been rumored updating cellular network to VoRA (Voice over Revision A) to bring voice and data at the same time to CDMA users. It is technically possible to use voice and data at the same time on CDMA, its up to the Dump Pipe providers to update the network.
