Approximate cost to replace timing belt and water pump

I found a local mobile mechanic that does a lot of older Toyota trucks, and gave him $250 for the labor, and I provided the parts, which were also about $250.

$500-600 sounds reasonable.

I remember when I did mine I bought a kit off ebay then had a mechanic install. I think he charged me about 250-300 bucks. Kit was about 225 I think. Guy did a great job too.

That guy gave you a screaming deal on that. Hope you bought him some beers. That's a lot of work for $300.

His shop was across the street from where I grew up. We took multiple cars to him and he primarily worked on japanese cars. Knew him a long time, yes gave me a great deal

I got a quote today from my guy for $400. Happy to pay it and trust his work as I have in the past.

Hey guys,

Got a 2002 SR5 4x4 with 110,000 on it. I've been putting off replacing the timing belt (and while I'm at it, the water pump) for about 10,000 miles.

Anyway, winter is coming and I figure I should just get this done finally.

I live in Minnesota, and my local mechanic (who I trust, sorta) says it's gonna cost about $800 (parts and labor) to replace the timing belt/water pump. Does this sound right? I'm sure a Toyota shop would be well over 1k, but I'm wondering if I can do better than this.

$800 is about right 2 dealer where I'm at quoted me around that price which includes the water pump.
