April 2007 T4ROTM - Bala de Plata

Always had the intention of having a kick ass 2wd prerunner. It's a bit easier for suspension upgrades on a non 4wd and less to f*** up. Here in So Cal, there are a lot of areas that you dont need 4x to have fun (fireroads, desert, and surf trips to baja). Besides, yesterday I got over more terrain that my brother in his 4x4 tacoma couldn't cause of clearance issues. So far there has only been one hill climb that I couldn't make up without the 4x, otherwise it really has never stopped me. I can get and go through or over just about anything. Not having 4x hasn't stopped me one bit from having a ton of fun!! But I will say there have been a few times that I thought to myself "if I had 4x, I could make that no problem" but with common sense or a bit of balls, it makes up for most of those times.

Also, I didn't put the sliders on for crawling. I put them on to protect my panels from unforeseen damage. Like a 2x4/log popping up and smashing the bottom of the doors which did happen to my brother. He has a nasty dent on both doors on the passenger side from a 2x4 on his job site that came up and smacked the crap out of his truck when he drove over it.

Thats sweet bro, You have hella nice lookin rig. The best looking 4th Gen i've seen.

That's a sweet 4Runner, love the stance. Garage is awesome too. How have the mods effected gas mileage and was the Volant worth it in your opinion?
 
Volant=Worth it if you have an extra 3 bills laying around that you can justify not spending on something that will give a better ride off road or protection (ie. armor). I dont run it very often and am probably gone sell it. With my new exhaust, I run to lean with it on and would have to go with a AFC like some others have. Short answer, no its not worth it. But if your into the but dyno, you can feel it. Just that there are better things to spend money on in as far as the new direction I am going.


Gas Mileage=Sucks, 14 to maybe 15 mpg. But I dont really care as work pays my gas for me. I know, Im an A**hole!
 
Well just for others that may come across this, I had already removed the front mud flaps and trimmed front wheel well plastic to previously clear 285's and trimmed rear mud flaps. I also run 1.5 spacers at all wheels to increase back space for stock rims and the front spindles have a 1" offset each side so the front is 2.5 over stock each side.

So far just in the front when turning with compression turnig out of my drive way. You can see in photo 3 where im talking, the lower portion of the front bumper. I plan on just dremeling out a corner of it and slightly increasing the preload on my CO's in front. I am getting a bumper within the next month or two, so Im not concerned with trimming.

Did you notice a huge increase in sound by dumping the exhaust right after the muffler? How about power increase? What muffler are you running?
