ARB 3424020 Taco bumper 4runner install question

I'm looking to upgrade to a winch compatible bumper (anticipating upgrading to 4WD someday) but I want added protection against deer strikes, etc since I do a lot of mountain/distance driving.

All the bumpers I've looked at involve cutting the frame caps, completely or partially. My question is about reversing the install to put the stock bumper back on, should I decide to sell the 2WD rather than upgrade it.

Assuming welding is not an issue for me, can I restore the caps and remount the stock bumper?

I installed mine years ago, so I'm only going by memory, but I didn't cut the whole frame caps off. You only need to grind the "ears" off the caps. You'll still be able to reinstall your factory bumper if need-be.

BUT... I don't have a winch and don't plan on adding one with the factory/ARB mounting method. The "airbag compliant" mounts don't seem strong enough for a winch pull. I know a lot of people who have added a winch with no issue, I just won't do it.

I cut them off with an angle grinder and cutoff wheel. They would weld back on pretty easily.

I've wondered the same. From what I've seen, since most of the aftermarket front bumpers require cutting and installing a new crossmember, it LOOKS like you would be able to just leave the aftermarket crossmember on instead of putting the factory crush can/bar back on and still mount the factory bumper cover as usual. BUT my assumption is just based on pictures I've seen.

Have you looked at CBI Offroad bumpers? I just put one on a few weeks ago after hitting a deer and destroying the stock bumper. very well built and bolts up to the factory mounts. no cuttuing or grinding

I bounced my old runner off the ARB bumper on both corners with a full barrel roll flip and the bumper held up amazing. It bent down at the sides but the mounts were un-phased. Very impressed. I bought another.

The part that gets cut off should only be for the impact bar portion, not the outer visible part of the bumper...

I looked at my ARB bumper and I also have a winch installed. I still have the little tab that the factory had. I've reinforced it for winching and have pulled me completely dead weight at close to maxing out the winch with good success. I love my bumper setup in the front and was one of the first few for the 5th gen ARB installs also. Really liked it.

For my AllPro front bumper I had to cut off about 3" of the frame rail and the cross member that the original skid plate bolts to. I kept the pieces I cut off to weld back on if I ever decide to revert back to stock.

If your handy with a welder this should be a piece of cake.
