ARB Skid Plates

I am pretty sure that they all line up on yours because the front can be moved side to side where mine cannot. Having that little bit of flexibility would allow mine to match up I would think.

Wow, ya yours hangs down quite a bit lower in the front and is at a much steeper angle. I guess they both serve the same purpose although the steeper angle is more likely to "catch" on something than the shallower angle on the non-KDSS. Probably worth a call, if there is no charge to swap it out then hey why not.

Either way they offer much better protection than the oem splash pans! :thumb3:

Quite the difference from the KDSS front skid. Now I am curious if I should contact TRDparts to ship the other one....

Wow is right....pretty big difference. I would personally get the right one Brock since that is what you paid for and they screwed up. The angle is better and you'll gain a little ground clearance on the non KDSS one as it doesn't have to allow for the low KDSS sway bar that goes under those two supports.

I emailed them again tonight. If I do not hear back then I will call tomorrow.

I ordered the non-KDSS skids so there should not be a charge to me, it was not my error to start with.

ARB Skids

Just ordered myself a shiny new set of arb skids from my local shop, now I just have to sit on my hands for the next 8 weeks (!) until they arrive.

I feel like kicking a koala bear. Hard to believe they take that long to come in :wow:

Hahahaha 8 weeks is nothing. You've clearly never ordered anything from Shrockworks.

I've not, but if longer waits than that are standard, I likely will not be. I much prefer the instant gratification.

Me too! 8 weeks is actually quite a long time for ARB, I thought their stuff usually get out a lot quicker than that.

I waited 4 months for Shrockworks Skids, only to have someone order a set and get them within 1 week. I cancelled my order the next day.

I blame the economy: retailers don't want to invest to keep extra stock on the shelves, manufacturers cut back, consumers end up losing out

After sitting in my garage in a box for the past week, I finally got the skids on. No major problems, other than discovering my jack stands are too short :redbrick:
The coverage appears decent for the front half of the vehicle, but for the cost I'd have liked a tank skid. The steel is substantial and reinforced in key areas.

the mud was that still hiding above my stock trans skid (after wheeling in July) was impressive

it actually flexed when I lifted it off the floor.

Yeah, I was bogged down to the rocker panels. Actually still surprised I got out of that hole. After running some errands today, I was hearing some pretty wicked vibration. Turns out the clearance between the trans skid and exhaust was a little too small, so I added a ccouple washers. Everything is all good now.

So I finally got a tool set and I'm almost done with installing these skids.... just need to install the transfer case guard and tighten everything up.

First off thank you everyone for the pics they were very helpful and I do agree the instructions are confusing because they reference the Prado 120; Prado 150; & FJ all in the same sequence of instructions.... which leads me to my first question....

I am pretty sure I do not end up using the 2 long "8M x 70 bolts" and spacers for the front skid which are designated for the Prado 120; because the 4Runner is the equivalent of the Prado 150 is that correct?

Also is it still safe to use the front cross member (actually it would be rear portion of the front skid) as a jack point... it seems as though the stock skids had a built in support that filled the void between the skid and the cross member and the new ARB skids seem to have a void in that location between the front cross member and skid... just want to be sure before I set this thing back down.

Sorry for the long winded post but I'm a newbee and have never put a wrench on any of my previous vehicles until now.

I always use the frame as a jack point (or sliders if using a hi-lift). If you read your owner's manual, it will outline correct jacking positions and procedures
