ARB type awning on factory roof rails/crossbars

I’ll be making some clamp on brackets this week. Bolt it on and hopefully good. I don’t like it sticking too high otherwise I would just bolt on top of the stock rack like the others shown

Brackets

I laser cut some brackets and used t-slot studs to secure it to the factory rack... very easy to install and remove.. let me know i can send you all the info....

I have driven with the awning for months / 1000’s of miles without any issues
There is still room on the rack for a basket...

Just got my ARB 2000 and brackets from Maadcaap - thank you so much. Question - I know you stated that you have had this on for a while and driving many miles. Can the factory rail support all this weight? I guess I need some more reassuring that I can put it on without worries.

Autoanything has a standard 17% discount going on. But if you google around, you can find a 20% off. I can't remember which site, but I picked up the ARB 2000 and tent kit for under 400 shipped.

I've sold a few of these that people have mounted onto their 4runner stock rails, then they bolt their awning onto these rails. Very simple.

There are 3 pics in that page too of a white 5th gen that uses our rails. The L-bracket for the awning doesn't come with it. The awnings we sell come with those brackets though.

That's a Foxwing Awning - they need to be mounted a bit higher or else you will need to limit the opening of the rear hatch.

the brackets that go straight up are nice but i wanted a lower look so i made some that came out and down so that it would not be too much higher than roof line.

I agree that it is not as sleek to have the awning be so high but the design is so stupid simple it's like why didn't anyone think of this before? Stupid simple designs like this usually means less chance of failure. I also don't mind the height as it should allow for more headroom for taller people when the awning is deployed.

i agree about the height and head room.

I am average height and if it goes higher it will also mean its harder to deploy. For me the main thing is MPG and noise. Afraid if it is higher it will ruin both.

yes!! make sure the t-slot nuts are vertical inside the rail while tightening.. there is a line on the threaded end of the hardware that indicates the direction of the t-nut

Did you think about having a second set of Attachments holes for the awning so that you could move it higher when you want to deploy it and use the lower to transport?

That is a possability.. for me I wouldnt want to mount and dismount the awning. I would probably make an ajustable bracket.. maybe with 6” of adjustment..

I went with 3 holes for the awning side because ARB supplies 3 bolts.. a rectangle with 4 nolts would work also...
