ArchOil? My experience has been good so far...

OK…so I am the guy that likes to try new stuff. (LittleCaesar will chime in on my LiquiMoly adventures…LOL)

So, I saw a program on Jay Leno’s Garage and he mentioned something called “ArchOil”. It is a nano-borate oil additive. Well, I had to try it.

I have used it for more than 6 weeks in my most recent oil change with my standby Mobil-1 5W30 oil change. I also use either the Toyota OE filter or when on sale, the Mobil-1 oil filter.

I might be delusional, but there has been an improvement on gas mileage and the overall “hum” of my engine. When I saw gas mileage, I mean “tank-to-tank” regular fill-ups. I track each tank, the octane, the price and where I purchased the gas. I am sure folks will chime in and tell me all the bad stuff that could happen but right now, with almost 300K on my original engine, I am OK with trying something to improve it. (Consider me your guinea pig…)

Anyone else used ArchOil? It calls for 6 (3/4 of a cup) ounces for our 5.5 quarts of oil. Little me sit down while the comments roll in……

If you aren't a petroleum engineer by vocation, you should have been. They make big money, very big money.

I usually look at the PDF specs of an oil as well as word of mouth before I choose one. The NOACK number is usually a decent indicator, at least for me. I have been on a steady diet of MaxLife 10w-30 for the last seven years.

Liqui Moly, well can't say any more than what I have emoted in previous posts.....

Try some Objective ones and you might get some more responses.

But off the cuff I'd say pretty pricey stuff.

I have no way to know if my oil is "deficient" in any way (I use Mobil 1 and always have). After having tried this though, I know my gas mileage is not only improved, but improved on a consistent basis......

You are running 10W-30 in your rig? May I ask why? Our machines call for 5W-30.....

5W-30 is preferred but 10W-30 is fine for temperate climates.

Because I can. This engine seems not to mind heavier weight oil. I could probably run straight 30w in it and be fine.

I spoke with a guy who owns a Powerstroke and says that he and other owners swear on Archoil's friction modifier so it must be good stuff, though it may not be in the same ballpark as Liqui Moly......:fish:

I never thought of running a heavier weight oil but might try it.

I have to eat crow here....ArchOil seems to be MUCH BETTER than LiquiMoly......I am seriously impressed with this stuff. It's not a "one off" kind of product. It seems to consistently deliver.

6 weeks is not much of a sample, how many miles? How much improvement?

As you seem skeptical (which I would be as well) I suggest you try this product for yourself and then you will have all the data you desire (from your own experience) and nothing is better than "objective evidence".

And no...I do not work for ArchOil or have any interest/benefit (directly or indirectly) in their company.....just saying.

Didn’t Ceratec make your engine run smoother and get better mileage too? You must consistently be getting 30 mpg now. Gotta love these 4Runers.

Actually, I am getting 440 miles per gallon and my rig gives me periodic back massages and cooks me dinner once a week......

Gotta love and embrace the haters/skeptics/nare-do-wells. Look on the bright side, at least you are getting new ideas about alternative products for these beloved rigs of ours.......and you don;t have to spend a dime but only time reading posts like mine....LOL

Why would I spend my money on something I am skeptical about? You said you have a consistent improvement, what does that even mean? If you already have objective evidence, why not share it? Isn't that why you posted this in the first place? Or does it just bother you that I said 6 weeks isn't much of a sample?

Why the attitude? If you're trying to share helpful info on a product you experienced to be beneficial, answering the simple question of "how much benefit/change have you seen?" seems incredibly basic, and not warranting of "attitudy" responses.

I put the Liquid Molley Certic stuff in my Saturn SL1. It wasn't cheep but another Saturn member recommend it and I seen it at Napa when I got 4 EK spark plugs for the 3.4l Toyota to install in my Saturn.

I did both(plugs and LM stuff) at almost the same time but feel the Certic was worth 1-2mpg.

Obviously this thread is just based on a bunch of subjective and baseless accounts. There’s a channel on YouTube called Project Farm, and he tests these various oil and fuel additives with a far more structured approach. I’d recommend suggesting these products in the comments of his videos because he actually does listen.

Otherwise, can somewhile let me know if adding two whole bottles of Ceratec and a quart of archoil in the crankcase made their transmission shift smoother and eliminated any pinion bearing whine? Thanks.

Seems like when I try a product (LiquiMoly) for example, I am met with lots of skepticism. (That’s natural) Having it thrown up to me all the time though, gets old. I’m no scientist but I am curious about things I read about and see. In the case of this product (ArchOil) I have seen consistent tank-to-tank mileage improve over the mileage I tracked before the ArchOil. (It has actually been more consistent than LiquiMoly products and I admit that) It has averaged 1 to 2 gallons more per gallon over a period of six weeks. For me, six weeks of consistent mileage improvement is good enough for me to believe it has some benefit. I understand how my opinion is subjective but I don’t agree that my real, first-hand experience is “baseless”. My Dad has a saying; “You can’t get a year’s worth of experience in less than a year.” I would submit you can’t judge a product until you have tried it. Nothing is more educational than first hand experience. (i.e. Watching someone pour concrete is not nearly the same as actually doing it yourself.) I am not recommending people run out and buy ArchOil. If they decide to (or not to) no skin off my nose. Just sharing my experience and after all - isn't that what this site is all about? Yes sharing is what we are about, I'm glad you decided to share some information. Still not enough but let's just run with what you got. Averaging 1 to 2 (Miles) per gallon? I don't think you meant gallons per gallon. So let's say that the actual average is 1.5 mpg. Now what we don't know is what kind of mileage you were getting before, so we will use my truck average to figure this out. I average about 16.5 mpg right now. So I made a spread sheet to see what it means to gain 1.5 mpg. The variable are the cost per gallon, your mileage, and the increase. At that increase I would save $53 per oil change, which for me would be about $138 per year. IF it is true...:noidea:
