Are 4runners just too damn common?

I actually noticed when we were down in Ten/NC there were tons of them. I remember sitting at an intersection and said to my wife check this out... there were like 5 4runners including ours sitting at that intersection.

Western PA they aren't as common, I will probably see about 3-4 on the way to work (15 miles one way).

Holy crap drive 35 miles north. Butler is loaded with them. From retirees to soccer moms and everyone in between.

pick up a cosworth vega, had a chance as a teen to pick one up with side draft webers and the efi removed.

but it was hard to pick that with my heart set on a '84 toyota celica fastback in dark blue.

I see 4Runners on the road and note that 1 in 10 have mods.........way too many stone stock, boring ones! At LEAST throw a set of wheels at it People!:banana:

We play a Jeep/4Runner game, since we own both. Without boring you on the game rules, northern Colorado is crazy for these two. Just a grocery run into town can produce 30-40 spotting of both, always neck to neck. But a lot more modded Jeeps. Seeing a nicely modded 4R is a treat.

I feel like that has a lot to do with jeeps being more of a kids vehicle. 90% of the people I know spend irresponsible amounts of money living paycheck to paycheck so they can put mods on their Jeep so they look cool. Jeeps they don’t ever take off pavement, or when they do my stock ORP does just as well.

This is why I got a pre-facelift Trail in Shoreline Blue. I have yet to see another on the road near me. I have seen a Shoreline Blue limited and a silver pre-facelift Trail near me though.

Sounds from responses there are plenty of 4Runners in the US of A. Up here in Canada, at least where I live northeast of Toronto, I don't see as many. I think I've passed a couple of black SR5's like mine in the last week or two and see a gray Trail parked down near my work every so often. The Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk I traded for the 4Runner, see at least five to ten on my 50 km drive to work.

I see them all the time around town, but again as others have stated it's probably because I own one now and I have an eye for them. I play a game with my 6 year old daughter where we try and spot/cout the 4Runners we see on our drives, and we break them down by generation as well. She's getting good at spotting 3rd-4th-5th gens.

If I had to break it down by generation, i'd say the ratio is 20 3rd gen, 20 4th gen, and 60 5th gen. 95% of the 5th gens I see are stock or at least have no visible mods, but it's nice to see the occasional 4R that someone put some love into as rare as it may be.

We live on Ft. Jackson and today I just spotted a magnetic gray Pro with the 19 Pro rack on it, and there's one other guy on base here; Barcelona red with a gobi rack. Off base I have never seen another Pro on the road, just a couple Off Roads and loads of SR5s. People love the TRD wheels though, I will say that.

Digression aside, yes there are lots of them on the roads but for good reason; they're awesome.

This has probably already been mentioned, but at least down in San Diego, while 4runners are quite common, tacomas are EVERYWHERE.

Here in Texas they are everywhere. It gets overwhelming at times but it's understandable because they are reasonably priced for most, very reliable and hold their resale value quite well. I would say that 80% or more are bone stock so it's nice to come across another modified 4Runner. I see more Jeep Wranglers, Dodge Challengers, and Chevrolet Tahoes than anything else, less of course the Ford F-150.

The way I see it, the more people buy 4Runners, the longer Toyota will keep making real, body-on-frame, SUVs.

Also, it just means that more people are developing good taste and common sense.
