Are 700lb springs overkill for me?

Long story short;Bought a used modified 2017 OPR with KDSS. Had to start from scratch to figure out what all the components were.

What I have is Bilstein 6112s with Eibach 700lb springs in the front. I also have a Warn Semi-Hidden bumper (no winch) and RCI Sliders.

On road driving is great, theres almost no body roll or nose dive, at least to me, since Ive never driven a stock 4r, I have nothing to compare it to.

The only "issue" I have is some road bumps feel rough sometimes. I dont plan on getting a winch or adding more weight to the truck any time soon.

Would going to 650lb or even 600lb give me a better balance or would it hurt handling too much?

700lbs is way overkill and I’m surprised you still have teeth. I have almost 275lbs over stock hanging off my front end and I’m running 650s. For your current weight 600s would work

This is something i am currently looking into.

I have 6112’s up front with the Bilstein springs (600lb), and stock weight (no add on weight).

I am looking to add Steel skid plates, and a Steel hybrid front bumper next. Winch will come in the future.

Currently i am looking at the King 700lb springs.

Is a 700lb spring whats required for a steel bumper, steel skids, and a winch?

King also offers a 650lb spring.

I may look into the Eibach springs.

I’m running full aluminum RCI skids and the steel Victory 4x4 bumper hope front on stock 600lbs King springs that come with their kits. I see zero need to run a higher rate but many people disagree and think you need more. I’ve done it in the past based off those comments and hated it. Way easier to turn the coil over up if it sags.

I've got 700lb Eibach/Toytec(Elka) in the front and love it.

Warn Bumper - 90lbs
Warn Winch - 65lbs
LFD Skids - 75lbs

I don't even feel it rides great, also requires less preload to keep ride height up.

Obviously I can see you're setup more toward off-road, but how is your body roll and nose dive during on-road use?

I just have the bumper and sliders. I will say it rides great most of the time but when I hit certain bumps on road you kind of feel it more than you should for a vehicle with this much suspension IMO. As far as my setup goes, Im already a max height setting on the 6112 and 700lb springs.

You've got the height maxed out with 700 lb coils? How much lift are you getting?

700lb springs are overkill for almost any possible front end configuration out there on a 5th gen. Outside of an ARB bumper, 10k winch, dual batteries, dual air compressor and full steel protection. I specifically call out the ARB bumper because it’s center mass with a winch is cantilevered off the front end more than most bumpers. Which has a big impact on how any platform performs.

650 or 700lb springs weren’t really that much a difference in terms of pavement driving. They both suck :) You will get better on road handling by turning up your compression dampening than you would running 700s. I do a lot of racetrack driving with my BMW M3 so I’m pretty sensitive to on road manners. The truth is the 5th gen will never handle well on asphalt because it’s an absolute pig.

Oh and you should never be running an excess of 2.5” of lift for our IFS setup if you want the right up and down travel off-road. Going higher may get you mall crawler brownie points but it won’t help off-road.

Well this is my first SUV. Last car was a 13 SRT8 Charger and Im pretty impressed with how the 4r handles for a tall big SUV. Like I said my only "issue" is it does ride rough sometimes.

I dont think I can tune the 6112s but I could be wrong. Would you say going with a 600lb spring (from the same company, same series) would help the rough-er ride?

Pretty sure Im at around 2.5" lift in the front currently. It has KDSS but also has Total Chaos UCAs if that matters.

About 23" from center cap to bottom of fender. Not sure what stock front height is. I also have these in the rear which gives about 2.25" lift.

Dobinsons Rear Offset Height KDSS Coil Springs for Toyota 4Runner and – Dobinsons Direct

That's about 3" lift. So not crazy high all things considered. I'd agree with Xtremeluck that more than 2.5" isn't ideal from a optimal performance standpoint. Adjusting the perch to high can cause something of a harsh ride as well, maybe lower the perch and see how it is? Honestly, it's a giant pain to disassemble the coilovers to adjust the Bilsteins, if you have the money I'd get fully adjustable struts, that way you can adjust it with the coilovers on the truck. The 700# coils may indeed be to stiff for your setup. In addition to 600# and 650# I believe Dobinson's has some coils in the middle. I'd contact them and see what they suggest

Not really overkill. Definitely would feel better at the 600-650 range. I have a full front bumper, winch, lightbar, roof rack, skids, and it works nicely. Before that I had the same, just a Lo-Pro bumper and 650 handled it well. Again, if you can handle it, it doesn't matter, but ideally yes, overkill.

i recently upgraded from 650 to 700lb.

but for your purposes 700 is definitely too much for you

for me, 700lb is good, 650 i was nose diving all the time and had maxed recommended preload and still not leveled.

most recommendations on 650vs 700 lb are based on tacomas? which have a lighter front end then the 4runner i believe. My ridge is about the same between 650 and 700, i also changed tires amongst other things.
