Are the Heater Controls supposed to be illuminated?

1991 SR5. The heater controlls aren't lighted at night. Just curious if they are supposed to be? Don't want to get ahead of my self ripping the dash apart too many times.

I'm sure they are. Toyotas do have a bad habit of blowing dash illumination backlights. Best idea is to get an LED replacement kit and tear into it.

Even the backlighting in my '99 Limited's temp control LCD display is out... :rolleye2:

Heater is definitely suppose to light up. I've never had to replace a dash light on my '90. +1 on the LED replacements. You can even change the color then.

Put all the controls in the center, pull off the knobs and pry off the panel, and you'll get at the lamp, it's also usually covered by a plastic light-spreader.

Cool, my Light has gone out as well. Pain the butt trying to figure out how to change the heater when driving at night. 8)

There are some really small bulbs in there. I had to change mine out a few times in the past. I got replacements for the 95 at the auto parts store. The 03 I had to order from the dealer.

Not sure about yours but my 87 had "non-illuminated" controls too and it drove me nuts...found out after 6 years of this that there WAS a light behind there - it was just DEAD!

If it's the same as mine, it's a cinch to replace. The bulbs are at any auto parts store and come in pairs.

Just pull the rubber ends of the controls off (the part you grib to slide the controls left to right)....then (carefully) pry out the surrounding plastic housing. inside, you'll see there's a clear plastic piece that fits behind the controls, and a light behind it - the light illuminates the clear plastic, which illuminates the display.

This was MY truck, so yours may be different...but I assume similar - just take your time and be careful.
