Are these really needed

I have been reading up on removing the sway bar, especially the front. Well to be honest mine isn't connected anymore anyway. The bracket on the driver's side is busted. So I am thinking about completely removing it. For as long as I have owned this truck it hasn't been connected. Is this wise or is it better to fix it. I have a 1990 4wd with the
v6. It is my daily driver, but every weekend it is out playing in the mud.

Whatelse can be removed?

I have my front SB removed. You can def tell it's missing, but you adapt. NOT my DD though. Have to remind myself I am in the runner...not the mazdaspeed 3 on offramps :p

No sway bar on mine. I don't DD it but even when I do take it in on my 40 mile work commute I really don't miss it. As mentioned above you just have to remember that it is not a sports car. Oh wait....yours is already off, so you should already be aware of that.

I went the opposite way, and installed urethane bushings on the sways and up links. We wanted improved stability on highways and back roads. This truck handles poorly enough already in stock configuration, can't imagine what it's like without sway bars.
regards

If it's already on the vehicle, and you do little or no wheeling where extreme articulation is needed (mudding doesn't need more than normal wheel movement), it might be worth it to hook it back up (preferably with urethane bushings)--it will make the vehicle's handling much safer on the street. Those who willingly leave them off typically do a good bit of hard offroading where maximum wheel travel is needed, but they do so at a much greater risk of loss of control ON the road. With a daily driver that doesn't see anything much worse than mud holes, I would be inclined to hook it back up, especially if there's a chance someone else may need to drive it on occasion.

How much more flex does this achieve? I'd been thinking of doing it, but i don't want to ruin its street driveability

See I wonder that also. I think I need to specify a little. I saw I go through mud every weekend, by that I mean I use it to go through the woods on trails. A little flex would be great. But it is my dd. but I do play in the woods.

You get a "little" flex with them in there. I took mine out because I needed more than a "little" flex. If you were rock climbing and getting off camber more often than not, I would say take them out. If you are hitting wooded trains with some bumps and climbs, but still using it as your DD I would leave them. I missed mine on the 400 mile (one way) trip to Moab.

Either way the bolts on the driver's side are broke off. So if I do put it back on I have to get the rest of the bolts out.
