Are Toyota service costs higher?

HI all:

This is my first post. I bought my first Toyota Saturday (a 1999 4runner) and I love it.

So today I took it into my local Toyota dealer and they gave it a complimentary inspection. While they were checking me in, I looked down at their service deals. A standard oil change/fluid check was $85, add an air filter and it is $125, Add a Cabin air filter to that and pay $145. All used "Quality Toyota Motor Oil".

Like I said this is my first Toyota and I am not used to paying over $35 for an oil change from the dealers of my other vehicles (Hyndai Sonata & Saturn Vue). The items included in their service are the exact same things (with the exception of the quality Toyota oil).

So my question is this. Is this a normal service price from Toyota? Or does my dealer just think they are just the sh1t and feel as if they can charge this and people will pay it? I mean they WERE packed with business.

I would be curious what others experience from their dealers.

New Toyotas use synthetic oil that's good for 10k miles. I'm hoping that's what the 85 bucks reflects, but you can probably get a synthetic change for less at your local Jiffy Lube and hope the high school dropout doesn't drain the transmission instead.

I buy my own air and cabin filters online and change them myself.
 
Actually the Synthetic was about $20 more also. Maybe there was more to it and they were communicating poorly on it.

I have a Hyundai dealer that takes care of my other two oil changes... I will stick with them for minor services.

HOLY WOW! My dealership does a vehicle inspection and oil change, filter, oil, and car wash for $40. A little more then a quick and go place, but I like having this aspect of my car handled by Toyota techs. I know the standard of living in KC is higher(lived there for 5 years) but dear lord remind me to always change my oil here before road tripping down that is a ridiculous amount!

I don't get the wash, but I get rotated and balanced for $40
 
My dealership (who I'm not too happy with) is known for their $10 oil changes, up to 5 quarts. It includes OEM Toyota oil and filter. $85 is way too much. Other places (non-Toyota) around here charge between $30-$40.
 
$85 is crazy. You better be getting certified oil that was refined from T-Rex fossils for better performance. I always do my own oil changes. I just don't trust other people with my runner.
 
Oil changes at my dealership usually start at $35. I pay $130 for a Mobil 1 synthetic oil change with a tire rotation and a multipoint inspection. I have my own mechanic I go to for everything else but since I have a truck payment, peace of mind goes a long way when a Toyota tech looks over my 4Runner. Love my mechanic but a Toyota tech will know my 4Runner inside and out. I refuse to pay for other overpriced services at Toyota
 
That's out of control...

I pay $40 for oil and filter, and have them wash the damn thing too.

Oil is about the only thing I don't do myself on the 4Runner as the dealer pricing is pretty competitive + the wash. Its such an easy car to maintain... just do the work yourself and pat yourself on the back afterwards.

No tech is going to give a level of "white glove" care you are expecting... if you have ever worked at a dealership, its about speed and volume.

Even the oil you think you are getting is just the flavor of the month stuff that comes in those 50 gallon barrels. Its all about the low bidder.

That said, my dealer experience is generally very positive. My service writer and tech(s) have all been pretty straight forward with me.. that said, its rare that I have them do any work. If its something major I cant do myself, its about the only time its going on their rack.
