If the newer rack ie 14-15 is like sr5 NO ! Bummed me out to so on to the TE rack & suckcess !

When you tried mounting the rack on the SR5 / Limited side rails, how far up would the rack need to move to clear the roof? I'm thinking of making a spacer plate to go on top of the bracket to lift it up. Might have to get longer U clamps.
Where did u get the rola rack?

Saw the ad n Gen Discussions etrailer back cpl yrs ago cheap then like 140$ don't know nowadays ? Someone mentioned walmart ?:keyboard:

Only one that I'm aware of that works with the armor tech mod brackets !
The Yakima and Thule baskets doesn't have a edge around the bottom to attach the brackets. Sportrack seems that it might work too.

Well here we go , it fits HOWEVER due to the narrowing of the TE rack it's squeezing the rack so I'm not sure if this will work long term , here's some pics tell me what you think ? :usa2: Thanks to GabrielM for clueing me in on the TE rack , not sure why Toy. would do the rack like this . In the middle pic you can see how the rubber is up a bit .:shocked:

Here's a better one of the clearance & how it sits . Looks ok but wish I could get it back & centered more . Will see how much it pushes on the side rails but absolutely no noise very quiet . Was getting a TE rack anyhow & got a killer price from my boys at Findlaytoyota ya I said it get a hundo for birddogging :jaw:

So, the more you move the rack backward, the more the TE side rails are moving inward? That will be the opposite of my crossbars problem. Is this because of the cargo basket width or the mount that you're not able to move it further to the back?

No the opposite because rack is square the further I push it back , like you said get's shorter(cross bar shorter) and pushes it outward ! Don't want to go any further afraid it might strip out the rear .

Follow up on this - has anyone tried flipping the brackets so it works on SR5/2014+TE? I don't really understand the discussion of why it won't.

I agree. I see absolutely no reason why you couldn't flip the bracket, rest the basket rails on top of the bracket, and have the U bolts facing downward with the nuts underneath the bracket.
The only problem I could foresee would be the bolts attaching to the factory side rails and the nuts on the U bolts may contact one another. The other thing to consider is that flipping those brackets would probably make the rack sit at an almost identical height to just resting it on top of the factory cross bars.

Sure you can flip them ! Then you'll see why . I wasn't ok with my load up there shifting because all that's holding it is the clamp but .......each his own ...

"Then you'll see why"... what? Isn't it effectively the exact same mechanical coupling, albeit with nothing on each vertical side to 'contain' any potential sideward movement of the tubing within the u-bolt? Seems like it mostly 'looks' less solid, but would be identical, physics-wise.
So, has anyone successfully flipped the after-market '03-'09 low-profile hardware and mounted to a 'recent' 5th Gen rack (silver with black end cap style)? I posted to the relevant 4th Gen 'Rola Vortex' thread that talks about the low-profile mounts, but got no answers. I have no interest in mounting to the crossbars, as it then rides nearly as high as a LoadWarrior, etc.
I'd prefer not to spend $1k on a rack that will also rust over time (Baja Standard is the only other rack that speaks to me), and the Rola's $140-180 price point may make it worth a gamble. I wish some of these steel rack-makers offered aluminum versions, acknowledging that they wouldn't be quite as strong, but finish-wise would hold up better over time.
If it can be done, I'll definitely pick one up, replace the hardware and meticulously clean it up and join sections with gasket sealant and then re-paint.
Appreciate hearing if anyone has done this.
PS: In one of the relevant 4th Gen threads, I thought someone posted pics of a 5th Gen with it mounted that way, but upon closer inspection it was a 4th Gen with 'TRD Pro' badges. [cough!]
